New year in Bratislava?

by AnatolyZ

Hello my dear travel friends!!!
I have no idea why,but i chose to go from Vienna with my gf to meet the new year 2011 in Bratislava.
I heard it's a nice city and I have a big sympathy to Slovak people,i met some in my life and all were same "russian" mentality as me..of open minded etc..
The question,what will be there 31 december?(we staying there 30.12 till 1.1)
where is it the best to go?events etc..?restaurants?
thanks a lot!!
happy new upcoming year to all of you!!!
Anatoly

Hello,

I was once in Bratislava on New Years Eve. The outdoor events for New Year are concentrated on the following two squares:

- Hviezdoslav Square (Hviezdoslavovo Namestie)
- Main Square (Hlavne namestie)

There are many stalls where you can get someting to drink and eat, as well as some stages with performances.

Regarding restaurants, it looks like the local people eat at home on New Years Eve, but you can probably try any of the places in the old town.

Have a look here Anatoly http://www.silvester.bratislava.sk/en/
I go to Bratislava a few times in a month, but I have never been there 31.12. :-)
I believe one can enjoy himself in Partyslava.

Travel Tips for Bratislava

Bratislava

by Daoruiensi

I am flying from Singapore and as I will need to have a last meeting in Dortmund, thought flying to Frankfurt would be the best option.
My first meeting is in Bratislava on 10th Aug. Next meeting in Dortmund on the 12th. You mentioned that Vienna is nearer to Bratislava, but how do I get from Bratislava to Dortmund and connect my flight back to Singapore? Many thanks for quick response.

soldier with crushed swastika

by manuelEB

Sylvia (skipka) just told me the name of the monument you see almost coverd by the tram power lines. On the top of that hill there is a cemetery dedicated to soviet soldiers that died in taking Bratislava during WWII. The tower, I guess, is 40-45 mts high and the people travelling wiht me said that on the top of it there is a statue depicting a soviet soldier destroying a swastika. It is not that simple, though. Fascism keeps too many symbols alive nowadays. Look around...

Exit bar

by macicka

This bar is situated in the center of the town but it's hidden in a small yard. It's a small bar with 4 tables but it's interior makes it interesting and different from the rest of the bars. Maybe if you look at the photo of the bar, you would know what I'm talking about.
What I like there is that you can sit on leader sofa or high chairs. It's bit darker there and the atmosphere is intimate.
They offer alcoholic and non-alcholic cocktails, coffe, hot chocolate, tea etc.
You can find this bar on Laurinska street in the yard near shop Musica (cca 100 m from Theatre of P.O.Hviezdoslav).

Silver man statue

by codrutz

This statue is on a street you will surely take walking away from the main square. This is another statue inviting you to take a picture with. The smiling black tie gentleman is keeping his tall hat away with his hand so an average height person can fit right under that for the picture :)

You tell me you've been to Bratislava or will be there and resist not taking a picture under his hat :)

Argentinian red wine in Bratislava

by Cheewa

I found a good (not one of our best) red wine in a supermaket :-)

I gift Lubos and his parents when he invited me to meet an slovakian home.

I spent 2 great days and 1 night in Senec with the family. Playing pool with Lubof in their home.
And.. an argentine wine too!!!! hehehe

His big room, with a kitchen!!!!!!!
