I have not been to Bratislava in years, and I am not sure what is considered too pricey, but we stayed at the Hotel Forum and I was pleased with the hotel, food, accomodations and staff. Actually, we were looking for a place to buy a violin as a gift to take home, and one of the staff took us to his friend's house who sold us a violin. They treated us to baklava and were very hospitable, but spoke no english and we didn't speak the Slovak language. I don't remember the hotel as being too expensive, but it was several years ago. Good luck!

A couple of years ago on I found a room at the Crowne Plaza for Euros50 for two people. The hotel is extremely well located. Very nice rooms. Free internet. You might be lucky in finding a similar deal. You could also try

Here's a link for Botel Gracia. I've heard mixed reviews about it but if it's only one night, it could be thought of as an adventure!

Unfortunately, they don't list their prices on their website, but other websites list their prices at around 45-50 Euros per night.

Everything's within walking distance

Once you're in the Old Town, the core of Bratislava, all you need to do is take enjoyable walks along whichever street, and you will always come across a must-see. Once you reach the Cathedral, you're also facing the old city walls.

by Astralka

On the Main Square - Hlavne namestie (or nearby) you will find several embassies. I picked up the Greek one, because of my sympathies..

The addresses of other embassies you find through the link below. The last one was causing many problems..

Marrons and potatoes

by macicka

There are many kiosks with marrons and potatoes on the streets during the winter. I think it belongs to the winter atmosphere.
It's quite cheap and good enough when you are bit hungry. They offer ketchup and mustard for free.
During the summer months are marrons replaced with corn.
Kiosks are e. g. on Hlavne namestie, Kamenne namestie, Postova ulica...

Cumil the man sticking his head out of a manhole on the corner of Pánska and Rybárska. Many people say that he has been hiding in the sewers while the city was bombed during Wold War II. Now the war is over and it explains his satisfied smile. Or is he simply happy to looking up the skirts of young ladies in Bratislava?

Slovak National Galery

by Skipka

Not that big galery as you should expect but however interesting. The entrance fee is around 60 Skk and there are alwasy some special exhibitions. Last time I have seen Ladislav Mednyansky exhibition and it was really nice, then thematic gothic period in Slovakia and a bit from the works of surrealist Ernst
