We turned up to Bratislava without having booked any accommodation. There´s a tourist information office in the train station, where they have a list of available rooms, from hostels to an apartment. We didn´t want to share a room in a hostel, so decided to spend a little more on the apartment, and we weren´t disappointed. A lovely big bedroom, with tv and armchairs, a galley kitchen with a sink, hob and kettle, a toilet and a separate bathroom with an absolutely huge bath... plus the fact we were only five minutes walk from the Danube and the heart of the old town. I think it worked out at about 16GBP per night, between two (although it could sleep three as there was a sofa bed too).

Great little hostel with very good location and a nice bar downstairs that stayed open as long as there were people buying drinks. There was a truly unique common room and a kitchen/laundry room. The hotel is all red carpets, smell of cigaretts and dark corners. We liked it because of the kitsch, and because it is authentic. The main drawback was the thin walls. However, the breakfast was superb and the staff friendly. If you are looking for a scandinavian-style place with lots of sunlight and flowers, choose another hotel. But I recommend it to everyone who wants to experience some old communist-feeling.
15 floors and superb breakfast. Theme: HotelPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: less expensive than averageAddress: Rajsk? 2, Bratislava 814 48

A 3 star hotel inspired by film stars that's located on a quiet street. After searching for couple of hotels nearby and comparing prices, we decided to stay in this hotel as our legs were tired after all the walking. The rooms were cosy and equipped with standard facilities.
Located on a quiet street that's nearby to the city center, an internet cafe and other ammenities. Cosy rooms and friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staffs. First of all the hostel is in a very bad location, and it is on the third floor of an 11 story hostel which appears to only cater to Slovakians. When I walked in and told the person in the lobby I had a reservation they said "no you don't, you're at the wrong place". I showed them the map I downloaded and they said, "this place is rubbish, you don't want to stay here". After walking around the block and going back to the building two more times I was FINALLY directed to a separate temporary looking desk for the Red Star Hostel. Things the website/flyers claim this place has, but in fact do not exist: bar/restaurant, luggage storage, fun. It was physically impossible to meet people here. Unless you speak Slovakian, and even then all the Slovaks were part of travel groups. The "bed" was nothing more than 3 thin couch cushions which would separate from each other as you slept. The employees were very nice and helpful though, but had no idea where the nearest ATM was. I do appreciate the irony that their motto is "the only iron curtain is between us and the boredom" and this place was horridly boring.
I'm pretty sure they employed blind people to decorate and clean this place in the '70's. I don't think anything has been done to the facilities since then. entrance is good -if not impressive easy to get to bus 205 we got from it is very dated- we seemed to have got the lower standard room which meant no tv, no tea making facilities, but we did have an ensuite bathroom with bath. the place room does need painting and the carpets could do with at least a deep cleaning or ripping out . its a shame considering the good location and the history it has. breakfast is from 6-10 -there was a lot of business travellers present as well and the mix of people staying here varied from as i said business travellers to young lads on stag weekends. Quite a mix- nonethe less it was not as noisy as you would expect. We were on the 4th floor.there are 15 floors in this hotel
