It's okay in every sense. Friendly service, safe, room service etc. But still quite expensive for all that.
Now who's the interior designer?! Apparently he/she was trying to create some ski-hotel atmosphere with the furniture, but hey, it's the centre of Bratislava! Nice try...
That's where I stayed on my first visit to Bratislava. Far from luxury, but quite decent and friendly. I was satisfied, although when the only lift in the hotel went out of order, it took far too long to get it fixed. You will need 10-15 minutes to walk to the Main Sq., but if you're on one of the top floors and your room windows face the back of the hotel, you will have a view on the Presidential Palace gardens, the Slavin Hill monument, and the Hrad Castle atop the hill to your left.
Firstly the Hotel Tatra is in an excellent location. Although it is on a busy street, there is an underpass which leads into the pedestrian area of the centre, and also there are bus stops nearby. The hotel is also very close to the Presidential Palace.
The first (current) drawback with the hotel is that it is currently undergoing extensive extension work and therefore there is a lot of building work going on next to the hotel.
The second and bigger problem we had with the hotel was with the reservation. We had booked a double room with extra bed several months in advance. On arrival at the hotel we were told that there was no double room available which was large enough to accommodate an extra bed. The solution proposed by the receptionist was that we should take an apartment (at an additional 30 euros or so) instead. Eventually after some debate, we were given the apartment rooms at the same price as the room which we booked. So all ended well (and the apartment rooms were excellent) however it left a bitter taste that we had booked a certain room only to be told it wasn't available and therefore we were just expected to pay more instead.
Breakfast was adequate, and the staff were generally ok.
