http://www.tatry.org/sk/ubytovanie/chaty/chaty.htm by Skipka If you want to experience the sunrise in the High Tatras right in the mountains and not in cosy hotels you can spend a night in mountain cottage. Picture Perfect scene from hotel window by SanguiniA This is a very cosy small hotel in Cingov, a very small village near the Slovak Paradise (just 15 mins on foot). This hotel is great value for money, with nice and very helpful staff. Hotel Cingov also has a lovely restaurant with many tasty dishes to choose from, both local as well as foreign. The hotel's bar is a nice place to chill out at the end of the day - especially if drinking the superb (and cheap) Slovak beer!
We had a picture perfect scene out of our window! (See Picture). We also appreciated the peace and tranquility of the area. Our room had a small balcony/terrace and it was great to just sit there in the morning whilst still waking up. Stay away from this place. by Paul2001 I have stayed in over 200 hotels in my adult life, so I think I know what qualities I look for in good accommodation. Then on the other hand I know a dump when I have stayed in one. Of all the hotels I have visited, the Hotel Kyjev wins the prize for the worse value for my dollar that I have ever spent the night in. The Hotel Kyjev is an old communist hotel probably built during the 1970's. This place is serious need of renovation. Perhaps even demolition. Firstly the elevators kept breaking down and were terribly slow. I was even entrapped in one for 15 minutes. Then again there was not enough of them for building this size. The walls of the elevators and corridors were covered with carved graffiti. The toilet in my bathroom kept running despite the token appearance of a maintenance man to repair it. The furniture in my suite was old and worn. The hotel bar was ugly and grossly overpriced. The staff here was obtuse. When I asked for a 6:15 wake up call, I got it at 6:35. When I complained all I got was "Uh sorry". On my way out I complained about the maintenance problems and I got blank stares. For 54 Euros a night, I expect better. These days the hotel seems to catter to loutish Englishmen on drunken bachelor parties who could not afford to go to Budapest or Prague.
It was reasonably clean and the breakfast was good. The hotel seems to be popular to English lads on bachelor weekends hence it is full of drunken morons.

penzion by Skipka The best way how to have comfortable accomodation and smell the local atmosphere is to be lodged in pensions. There are many on the way but of course different look and different quality. This is just a sample :) of them ... but looks cute huh? :) It is situated in the village Kosariska where our Generalissimo Stefanik was born. From this place there is a great trip to visit Bradlo, the monument dedicated to him :) See must see tips...

View of the Tatras from Tatranska Lomnica. by hundwalder There are many excellent options for accomodations during your stay in the High Tatra mountains. There are at least five villages of different sizes offering accomodations. The village of Tatranska Lomnica is my choice of a home base. This village is centrally located in the Tatras and offers many quality private accomodations. We stayed at a very well maintained private pension in Lomnica. I will provide the name and booking information for this pension shortly. There are others offering similar facilities at very affordable prices. The roof and upper rooms of this pension are shown in the lower right of the photo. The pension is comfortable and kept incredibly clean. There is even a kitchen for those desiring to do their own cooking. There are some rooms having private bath and balcony. As I hope is evident from the photo, the views from the balconies and windows are excellent. To say that accomodations are inexpensive throughout most of Slovakia is an understatement. We paid the equivalent of about 7 euros per person to stay at this outstanding pension. Foreigners pay the same rates as locals. The friendly staff at the Poprad tourist information office will book you accomodations at any of the Tatra region's private penzions, free of charge. What more could you want.
This pension is easy to find. It is close to the train station, and is perfectly situated on the edge of the village's beautiful public park. Great views - without a doubt A good selection of quality restaurants close by. The Hotel Smokovec by Paul2001 The Hotel Smokovec is located Stary Smokovec. After staying in the grossly overpriced Hotel Kyjev in Bratislavia, I apprehensive about what other horrors might be found by way of Slovak accommodation. I glad to say that the Hotel Smokovec was a dramatic improvement. For certain, I got my value for my dollar here. The rooms were large clean and modern with satelitte TV and balconies.
The staff here was pleasant and spoke excellent English. The restaurant was good and probably the best I ate in during my stay in the Tatras. There is a charming cafe here too that serves very good cakes. As there is not much to do after dark around the hotel, it probably could have used a bar. I found the Hotel Spirit by accident on the Internet. As the photograph shows, it has the weirdest architecture you can imagine. Nevertheless, it is an excellent budget option: The rooms are colourful and clean, the breakfast is OK. The only disadvantage is that it is ca. 15 minutes walk from the city centre.
