Mountains: Nizke Tatry ridge accommodation

by 68maciek

Hi,

20.01 I answered you that Nizke Tatry can be easily done with an accommodation in mostly mountain hostels/huts and 'self-service' shelters.
From south to south is quite short (not a big deal). You mean the full ridge, do you? it is rather for me from west to east (but never mind- I may be wrong here).
Here is the route for 5 days the other way round as you planned. Almost 100km took him 5 days (so similar speed as you plan. Nocovanie in the yellow section means accommdation.
http://hiking.sk/hk/ar/1606/hrebenovka_nizkych_tatier_za_5_dni.html
I would consider starting point Donovaly area instead of Brezno in order to make the full range. However, I must admit that I also started from Brezno/Tale/Serdecko, but it was in 1988 and I wasn't so clever that time as I'm now.So, I missed something and hope to come back there even this year (hahaha).
Here you have another report:

Have a look on mountains hut section overview:
Chaty->Nizke Tatry:

I found Chata Magurka particulary intersting. It is one of my future target:

If you really insist on a pension accommodation- it can be also easily done. However it demands from you more physical effort. You will need some time to reach the villages and than uphill up to 3 hours the next morning.
My lady sometimes prefers pension than mountain huts or tents but my duty is to be a bit more persuasive.
Have you already started to learn Slovakian to go through the pages (hahaha)?

Cheers,

Maciek

Hotel Bristol: Kosice's best hotel

by monica71

I have to admit I was not sure how much I will like or dislike Bristol Hotel. I was pleasantly surprised from the moment I walked into the hotel lobby and received a very warm welcome smile from the hotel staff.
I spent 5 nights here and I would go back to this hotel in a heartbeat. I had the "business suite" which my friends reserved for me prior to my arrival to Kosice. The price was more than excellent for what I got. I paid 79 Euros per night for this spacious and very clean apartment. The room was huge and had 3 areas: a living room with a very comfortable sofa and a work desk in a corner (Internet connection was also available from the room), a big area where a king size bed was located and also a small area close to the door with 2 comfortable chairs and a small table. The closet was a decent size and inside there was a safe and a mini bar stocked up with drinks. The bathroom was huge and I was pleasantly surprised to find a jacuzzi there.
My favorite part of the room were the skylights (11 in the room and 2 in the bathroom). They had blinds and you could close them up if you wanted total privacy. I loved the fact that I could leave some of them open and watch the stars at night while I was in bed.
The room was cleaned daily and every day I would find either chocolate or fresh fruit on the table. Fresh flowers were also brought in daily.
The hotel has a very nice restaurant downstairs with excellent food. Breakfast (lots of variety) is also included in the room price.
I did not have a chance to use the Roman Spa (entrance is free for the hotel guests), but the pool looked very clean.
The hotel location could not be beat: close to downtown (3 min walking distance) and on a quiet street.
Parking was an additional 9 Euros per day, but I did not rent a car and I did not have to pay the parking fee.
In my opinion, this hotel is a gem and it is a bang for your buck! Call the hotel directly if you want to book a room. You may get a better price than it is advertised on their web site.

great and quiet location 3 min walk from downtown, huge rooms, very clean, great breakfast, great staff

strbske pleso: hotel patria

by hanspeter_W.

Probably the most striking building in Strbske Pleso, the Hotel Patria offers marvellous views of the adjacent Strbske Pleso tarn, the nearby peaks of the High Tatras and of the Low Tatras in the middle distance.

In what many call the most elegant hotel in the High Tatras, you will find the height of luxury in the midst of exceptionally beautiful alpine surroundings. A unique, natural interior design, comfortable accommodations, a full range of food and drink establishments and an amiable staff offering a spectrum of hotel services await you!

one of the most striking hotels in europe

What stays can we order

At least 7-night stays are organised during summer and winter season. Shorter stays are organised only as the last minute stays (ordered two weeks prior to the start as maximum). You can take shorter stays in off-season period. Some facilities offer weekend stays (2 to 4 nights). The accommodation facilities providing such stays have a special weekend price and number of paid nights specified as minimum.
We do not organise one-night stays!
We have special prices for New Year stays. At that time, it is necessary to fulfil the capacity of the respective accommodation facility for 7 nights as minimum (huts, cottages and family boarding houses). We will inform you about New Year prices for individual accommodation facilities in our office. The 50-100% increase of price is usual if compared to winter-season prices.
