help on SNP passage

by kail

Hi,
I'm interested in a route called SNP (http://sk.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cesta_hrdinov_SNP), preciasely the passage Kosice-Presov
I have following questions:
1) how does look like this route on the passage Kosice-Presov?
2) how much time do I need to take this passage?
3) Is it easy to get to this passage from Presov and Kosice?
4) Are there any camping areas on the passage?

Thanks for help

If I'm right Cesta Hridnov SNP is a name of the main (red marked) path trough Karpaty in Slovakia.

Yes, it is the red marked passage, so maybe you can help me by answering any of the questions I had asked before about the part of the route which is the passage from Kosice to Presov?

according to http://hiking.sk/hk/ar/185/cesta_hrdinov_snp_2_cast.html the route is diversed:forests, vilages, mountains (hills), meadows. It takes 2-3 days. There are some mountain hostels, shelters and youa can always find places for wild camping in my opinion.
If I were you would buy Slovakian maps for this area. They have also timing (hiking duration) given. You can see potential camping places, shelters etc. I havn't hiked on this part of the route yet.

Travel Tips for Kosice

Architecture

by HORSCHECK

Kosice's historic city centre along the Main Street (Hlavna ulica) is full of architectural gems.

It is not only the St. Elisabeth Cathedral as Europe's easternmost Gothic cathedral, but also several palaces like the late Rococo Archbishop Palace (Hlavna 28) or the Emprie style Palace of Count Forgac (Hlavna 10).

The most beautiful Art Nouveau building in Kosice is home to the Hotel Slavia (Hlavna 63).

Twin city: Wuppertal in Germany

by HORSCHECK

When wandering around Kosice I came along a street sign stating "Wuppertal 1490 km".

Wuppertal is located in Germany and only about 60 km from my hometown. Wuppertal and Kosice are twinned since 1980 and it was one of the first partnerships between a big German town and a city of the former Czechoslovakia.

Other twin cities and partner towns of Kosice include Budapest (H), Verona (I), Ostrava (CZ) and Bursa (TR).

Don't loose the Tatra...

by lichinga

Don't loose the Tatra mountains. Lots of woods, lonely paths in the shade, waters, wild animals; someone even talk about European bears in the area. Good for skiing in winter.
And, you may even find precious example of casle (see Spassky Hrad in the picture) and churches, with their peculiar bell-tower (see the picture below)

Dominican Church

by HORSCHECK

The history of the Dominican Church (Dominikansky Kostol) dates back to the late 13th century when it was built in in Gothic style.

In the middle of the 16th century the church was completely destoyed by fire and later in the 18th century it was reconstructed in Baroque style.

Nowadays the church belongs once again to the Dominican order.

Directions:
The Dominican Church is situated at the Dominikanske Square, just west of the St. Elisabeth Cathedral.

Old Town Hall

by HORSCHECK

The Old Town Hall (Stara Radnica) is a Classicistic style edifice which was finished in 1780.

The building has recently been renovated to serve for representative purposes. Nowadays it is also home to Kosice's Tourist Information Centre.

Directions:
The Old Town Hall can be found just opposite to the eastern side of the State Theatre.

Address:
Old Town Hall, Hlavna ul. 59, Kosice
