Statue of Pope outside Church
The ice-cream was so good and so cheap in Trnava that we feasted on the stuff. It cost 7 SKK for a cone with one scoop (that's about 0.2 Euro). The town places be bought it from were near the town square. One was Radnicka Cukaren on Hlavna, the other was a small shop near the Church of St. James.
Anton Bernolak was very famous person living in this town. He is responsible for cultural development and first serious attempt to codify Slovak language and this priest took the grammar and other linguistic base of the "codified" language from western part of country. It wasn't successful, because most of the Slovaks living in the Central and Eastern part weren't able to understand it properly. Except that he and his companion established Slovenske ucene tovarisstvo what was a kind of companion that released books in this form of language. So, his statue is somekind a dominant of the town easily found near the fortification walls. You also can have a rest in nice park surrounding this statue.
There is a synagoge near the centre. Trnava as Slovak Rome has not just catholic churches and this one also proves this fact. Right behind the synagoge is that cute little park to have a rest there :)
The base of this site was the Inn of Black Eagle somewhen in 17th century. Then in around 1830 there was a project of reconstruction made by architect Gruenn and the plan was to put there not just inn but also a concert hall and theatre. The first Slovak performance was played in 1869. The facade was redesigned at the end of the 19th century. The mirror hall Pannonia was erected in 1907. Around 548 spectators could join the plays however nowadays there should be less ..around 400 but in all comfort. Under the Secession segmented coat of arms is written Latin inscription. Present day interior was made in 1960 and there was used special durable material.
Many of the famous Slovak actors and actresses began their carreer right here in this theatre.
It is situated on the Trinity Square next to the Municipal Tower.
The centre of Trnava is captive of fortification walls which protected it in the history. Nowadays inhabitants like to walk in nearby park and just enjoy their time. In one part of the park there is also the statue of Anton Bernolak, founder of first Codification of Slovak language.
