Hotel Emonec, Ljubljana: Excellent location
This 2 star hotel is very well located right in the middle of the city centre about 100m from Preseren Square. The room I had was in the annex across the courtyard from the main building. It was fairly small with a smallish double bed, TV, cheap looking waldrobe and a small a/c unit which was definitely needed as it was July! The bathroom had a very small walk in shower which didn't have much water pressure. Breakfast wasn't much with cereals, breads and jams and coffee/tea and juice. There was also meat and cheese that came in packs of 3. Staff were very friendly and yes you still have to ask for large towels! All-in-all, I didn't want anything fancy and considering the price and compared with others located away from the city centre, it was a good option.

Camping Bled: Camping in Lake Bled
An excellent campsite. Went in September and it was still busy so I expect it is extremely busy in the summer months: making a reservation is advisable.
Shower/toilet blocks very clean. Supermarket, restaurant, laundry room, basketball court etc at the site. Family friendly.
Surrounded by forest and mountains and a short walking distance from the lake. Ideal location for outdoor sports lovers! Absolutely stunning scenery.
A couple of restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Nice walk by the lake to go into Bled.

Farm Pri Andrejevih: A great farmhouse
We followed the advice about this farm (from the Vter markyg) - It was a so cool address that we stood 3 days.
The village is really quiet, not too far away from the Potojna caves (15 minutes may be).
We received an excellent welcome.
Rooms are clean and very pleasant, food is great (good quantities too, maybe too much sometime for my poor stomach).
Price was 65 euros per night for 2 adults and 1 child, breakfast and evening dinner included - Side drinks (several wine carafs, beers, homemade cherry sirup) didn't cost a lot
These people are very concerned by the quality of their work and they do a lot for you to enjoy your stay...
Now that we are back to home, we can compare this address with several B&B we slept and definitly this one is great !

Best Western Hotel Slon: a little too expensive
Lovely hotel with lots of character except it still had that sort of "Best Western" feel about it. The hallways reminded us of a cruise ship.
Very close to downtown area, a little too far to walk from the train station with lots of luggage. Newly renovated rooms. Wonderful selection for the free breakfast. Strip club located in the lobby!

Apartmaji - Sobe "SABINA": Cheap and Super convenient Apartment in Piran
We had trouble finding cheapie accommodation in Piran... until i stumbled across this little gem on a little website (http://www.geocities.com/neutrino0303/).
I was a little skeptical, due to the price, and lack of great info. But we took a chance, and were so happily surprised upon arrival.
The building is a pretty Venetian-Gothic XV.century house (and the interior has been renewed), and is literally 10 steps away from the main square - you can see it from the front door.
We took the ground floor apartment - Apartment #1 - and it was basic, but comfortable. It has a small kitchen, a neat little bathroom, and two twin beds pushed together.
The housekeeper/manager - Sabina - is a total sweetie. She lives on level 1 of the building, and is a true friendly Slovenian lady! She even made us some home-made cakes, for taking her dog "Miki" for a walk, and because we tried (!) to help her out with some English translation. Note: She speaks only Slovenian (so have that phrasebook handy!).

Hostel Azur: Homely Hostel in Ljubljana
This is a brand new, tiny wee hostel that feels more like an apartment than a hostel, all cooking facilities, etc. A lovely atmosphere and nice decor. It is not in the centre but I believe they collect you from the tourist information as they did for my friend who was travelling without a bicycle, or you take the bus. To walk is probably around 15 minutes from the centre. The owners are the most helpful and friendly I have met in a hostel.
Prices are Mon - Thurs 6 bed dorm - 15 euro pp/pn, Fri/Sat 18 euro
Mon - Thurs - 2 bed dorm 22 euro pp/pn and Fri/Sat 25 euro
Other hostels start at 20 for a dorm so this is well worth it.
The Cheapest Around!! & Fantastically close to supermarket, bank, bar/cafe very cheap bakery (yummy for breakfast) and above a pizzeria, (also handy for me only 200 metres from a bike shop - perhaps they do rentals also).
The hostel has one bike to use for free and I think they plan to get more.
This is one of the most relaxed hostels I have ever stayed in and the guys are really helpful at telling you fun stuff to do in Ljubljana.

Pivka Jama: Postojna (Postumia)
Pivka Jama campsite is located just outside Postojna (Postumia) and conveniently near the renowned Postojna Caves.
We accommodated in this lodge for a price above average, but we were two people and the neat, clean lodge had 6 beds.
Great dry accommodation after so many days of riding in the wet!

Pod Roglo: Mountain resort
Hotel Pod Roglo is situated in Zrece, small village beneath mountain of Rogla and in the vicinity of the town of Celje. If you like hiking or skiing, this accomodation is highly recommended.
Besides rooms, which are nice and very clean, there are couple of huge apartments too.
Hotel has own restaurant, arranged in traditional style, which is widely known for its excellent cousine.

Tourist Farm Pri Andrejevih: Family Friendly
Staying at this tourist farm will be one of the more memorable experiences in my life. While the guesthouse is central for going to the coast or to the caves, one could easily spend most of the day just hanging out there. While there is not much to do at the house, the owners and their two adult daughters make the stay so enjoyable. Three nights at the guesthouse, breakfast, dinner and lots and lots of wine came to a little over $110 for two people. Upon arriving I was thinking tourist farm, I can do some farming. But they was no work to be done, just lots of talking, drinking, music (the 2 daughters played Slovenian folk songs all night), eating and playing cards. I learned so much about Slovenia talking with the owners and their daughters.
The guesthouse itself is recently built, reminding me of a house from the Bavarian Alps. Lots of wood. The rooms are new and clean, each room has a bathroom and balcony. There is a central room for watching TV, but we never even went in it. They are planning on building a swimming pool. It was an animal friendly environment as they own a dog and cats. People from every corner of the globe were staying there (about 12 other people) and it was nice to get to talk to them during dinner time.
Aside from the down home friendliness, the food was definitely a unique quality. The owners cooked all day long, making meals for breakfast and dinner. It was so much food and it was all so good. Several courses for dinner. I wish I had two stomachs just to eat it all.

Gostilna "Pozar" Prejame Village Postojna: Alpe Mountain Slovenia Europe
Family Pozar who's run this Bed & Breakfast Pension will kindly take care of all your needs.
Place is pretty quite surrounded by pure nature which can be seen only on the Alps Mountain. Village is situated close to Postojna Cave which is very attractive point to make one stop. Close to capital Ljubljana. Pleasant place to make 1 or 2 days brake while exploring Slovenia.
I was at end of April beginning of May 2004 when price was 12 euros / night per person

Pension Cirman: In Ljubljana, or rather, nearby
Everything I tried in Ljubljana by calling ahead was full. So I chose a pension, the one with the best rate, in Medno, about 10-15 minutes by bus from the centre of Ljubljana.
The owner was very reserved but nice. She was even nicer when she found out I was Canadian, cuz her son lives in Toronto and she visits him often. :-)
The room was in the attic and small. There was no one else on that floor, so we had the facilities to ourselves. Great! A very clean place too.
Buses to and from town are about every hour, perhaps more frequent in daytime. Euros 75 cents, CDN$1.20 -- how's that for accuracy? haha.
What I really liked was that on the last day, the longer-distance bus we wanted to go to Skofja Loka came from the centre and passed right in front of the Pension Cirman. No wasting time going back and forth.
Medno is in the countryside, very quiet. The pic is our Pension as it was many many years ago. Their business card mentions restaurant but it seems they only rent rooms now.

Hotel Turist. Ljubljana: A very Comfy Three Star Hotel
We stayed in a double room which was recently decorated and VERY clean and comfortable. It was decorated in blue with a Van Gough print on the wall. I remember it so well. It also had Satellite TV in the room,a mini bar, hairdryer and inernet connection if you needed it.
Single room 13.680 SIT - 29.280 SIT,57 € - 122 €
Double room 23.760 SIT - 33.360 SIT,99 € - 139 €
Triple room 28.320 SIT - 36.000 SIT,118 € - 150 €
Business room 30.240 SIT - 37.920 SIT,126 € - 158 €
Child's bed 3.600 SIT, 15 €
We would come back after a busy day of walking around and seeing the sights of Ljubljana, and relax in our wonderful hotel room. It didn't feel like we were staying in a hotel, it felt more like home or a friend's house. We didn't feel the need to go out. It was nice just to chill out at night there.
We had a great view as well.
The only thing I wouldn't recommend is eating at the hotel in the evening. It was pre packed frozen food and Veg. Slovenia has some great cheap restaurants. It's worth venturing out to find one!
Disabled welcome (one disabled room), pets welcome (in the rooms).

Right on the sea: Piran: A place of your own is fun
In case this is useful, I was in Piran in September. The "Youth Hostel" called Val charged 25 Euros per person, which was steep. A one-bedroom apartment with kitchen, living-dining-room and full bathroom was 27 Euros a night, minimum 3 nights, so we took it. It was fun to play house for once.
Just go to a place called "Tourist Agency" along the port when you arrive by bus. I thought it was the Tourist Office but no... it's a money-making business so be swift. The place I rented was right on the seafront, at the end of the old town, and perfect in every way. A real holiday, full autonomy. (Note that the town closes on Saturday 'round Noon, til Monday. If you get an apartment, run for your food and provisions before then!)
In the morning, stick your head out the window and ask the nice restaurateur to make you two large capuccinos. He'll put them right on the dining-room table, though the window. The greeting is "Dobr Dan" - Good day! -- and we used it a lot. Italian is widely spoken there, and German too.
It was great. And the weather! Warm and sunny, or even warm when there was a light drizzle. Lovely.
