Kranjska Gora
by croisbeauty
WANDERING AROUND
by novsco61
Hiking is one of the most popular forms of enjoying an active holiday.
I can recommend a trip to the Triglav valleys of Vrata, Kot and Krma. Stretching from Mojstrana to the foothills and then on to the summit of Triglav (2864metres), Slovenia’s highest mountain. Situated in the Zgornjesavska valley and in the four small adjoining valleys of Planica, Pisnica, Krnica and Martuljski potok, there are 40 kilometres of well-kept footpaths, some of which trail through the Triglav National Park.
Several signposts will tell you when you enter the Triglav National Park. All footpaths are marked on the map and allow you to tailor routes to reflect your own specific needs. .A footpath leads you from Kranjska Gora along the beautiful sun-kissed slopes of Karavanke or in the opposite direction through the Stan valley towards Podkoren with magnificent views of the Julian Alps.
The Krnica valley is accessible via the winding road leaving Kranska Gora and ascending towards Vrsic. Turn off this road at the second bridge over the Pisnica river and let yourself be led along the glacial moraines and grassy slopes to the mighty foothills of the Prisank, Razor and Skrlatica mountains.
From Kranjska Gora, another picturesque footpath will lead you to Tamar; the route begins at the start of the Vitranc chairlift and takes us along the meadows (winter cross-country track) and up what used to be the railway embankment through the forest into the Planica valley and pod Poncami to the alpine hut in Tamar. A section of the land covered by the map belongs to the Triglav National Park, a secured nature spot which is to be preserved in its original beauty.
PLANICA
by eden_teuling
Planica is the cradle of ski jumps and ski flights.
Planica's fame goes back to 1936, when ski jumper Sep Bradl first passed the limit of 100 m.
50 years later the limit of 200 m was also surpassed here in Slovenia.
World Cup Ski Jumping competitions are traditionally held in Planica every month in MARCH.
Vršic-Pass in March

I intended to take my friend to see the Russian chapel at bend no 7 but after we started he insisted we go to the top.
Who am I to argue.
The cobbled section of the road was built by Russian prisoners of war, they must have done a good job because it is still in fair condition.
Just follow the road past Jasna lake into Triglav national park over the new bridge and on to the pass.
The Erjavčeva koča (hut) at 1525m near the face of the buckwheat girl "ajdovska deklica"
is open all year round (if the pass is open that is)so you can get a well deserved beer ready for the final push to the top.
PLANICA - ON THE WAY TO THE TOP ...

I promised my daughter that I will take her to the top of the biggest ski jump in Planica valley. We began to climb and there was no end to those steps. Fortunately the path lead also thru the forest and we saw many interesting pieces created by mother nature - like the one ont the picture. Is it an animal head or something else ?
