HOW DO I GET THERE???

by hcapon

Hello. Taking a "whirlwind" trip in Europe and planning on trying to see some of Slovania. Planning on travelling to Ljubljana and want to go to Kranjska Gora but not sure best route to get there?!?!? Bus, Train, etc? Also from there I am planning on heading back into Italy or Austria...........what should I take from there to get places? Any ideas?

Here's the Slovenian bus website in English:

http://www.ap-ljubljana.si/eng/

Buses are roughly hourly from Ljubljana and take just under 2 hours.

For Italy it is easiest to take the regular buses from Koper or Ljubljana to Trieste. There is only one direct train to Italy (overnight) from Ljubljana but you can take the train + bus or another train.

Bus timetables to Trieste here:

http://www.autostazionetrieste.it/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=8&Itemid=0

Bahn.de will give you train info for trains from Ljubljana:

http://www.bahn.com/i/view/overseas/en/index.shtml

The Slovenian railway website in English is very helpful indeed for domestic trains:

http://www.slo-zeleznice.si/en/

but its Italian page only gives info on the overnight train to Venice (there are issues between Italy and Slovenia about the train link).

Hi,
beside above sites already mentioned, visit also Kranjska gora tourist web site here:

http://www.kranjska-gora.si/How-to-get-to-Kranjska-Gora

it says all you need about transport.

BTW, it's pity you don't visit some other, more scenic places when in that part, especially Bled and Lake Bohinj are worth mentioning. There are more diverse things to do there than in KG and are among highlights of visit to Slovenia - not Slovania (there's no state called Slovania). Just for your information :)

You can always hire a taxi, of course, but bus is the only public transportation from Ljubljana to Kranjska Gora and there's only one straight route. Leics and picek gave you all the info and links to find your way.

You should describe you plans a lil' bit more to get more accurate suggestions about getting from Kranjska Gora to Austria or Italy.

Rent a car and drive. Slovenia has excellent roads and highways. It is very easy to get around by car and will give you a lot more flexibility.

If you want to do something specific such as hiking or horseriding, contact Humanfish.com/slovenia. They are based in Kranjska Gora but there office is not always open. If you e-mail them before going they will set up what you want to do. We spent 2 hrs horseriding in the Alps - breathtaking and all arranged by them at 2 hrs notice. The hotel rang them on the phone number e mailed to us in London and their staff organised it all. ý12 for two hours on horseback is cheap by anyones standards and the ranch was pleasant and the owners trilingual.

A vidi ovo, kao da smo kod nas u Gorskom Kotaru. Malo nekakve drvene konstrukcije, informativna ploca koja je totalno neinventivna i "that's all folks".

Krnica Valley - 1.45 hours' walk

The Velika Pišnica Valley is surrounded by the peaks, all of them two-thousand metre high. It can be reached by taking a narrow cart track which leads us to the Krnica Valley. There is the Krnica cottage (1113m) at the foot of the magnificent rock walls of Prisank, Razor and Škrlatica.

Vršic - 2.30 hours' walk

The highest mountain pass of Slovenia can be reached by the asphalted road past numerous cottages: Mihov dom, Koèa na gozdu, Erjavèeva koèa and Tièarjev dom. By the road there is the Russian Chappel at approx. 1200 m above the sea level.

KEKCEVA DEŽELA

by novsco61

Kekec and his companions the wicked Bedanc, his mysterious aunt Pehta, the wise Vitranc, friendly and gentle Mojca and fearful Rozle, can be found in the mountains, where only children between the ages of 3 and 10 are allowed to go. Kekec will offer children sour milk and corn mush and allow them a peep inside his hut and listen to the stories from long, long ago.

Duration is 2 hours, you can check in at Julijana Agency in the centre of Kranjska gora.
