Help re hotel Alpina and other questions re KJ

by Tonyturner

Hi ! Next saturday (17/02) will see a crowd of us en route to KJ staying at the Hotel Alpina & have a number of questions if anyone can help:
1. Whats the hotel like in terms of accommodation and food?
2. Although we know its a ski in / ski out hotel, which run is it adjacent to ?
3. Prices of beer, vodka and wine, both in the Hotel and local bars ?
4. Talking of bars, can you recommend any ?
5. Are there any restaurants on the mountain or do we have to come down for refs ?
Think thats about it, but if missed something obvious then please chip in !!!
Many thanks
Tony & Lee

I have never stayed there, but you can find information about it here:http://www.slovenia.info/?hotel=1340&lng=2. The drinks are cheaper than in the capital, and there are some clubs, where you can party well, like Papa Joe's, Vopa and Kompas (it's a hotel, which has a club) and others. Some info about KG is found here:http://www.slovenia.info/?_ctg_kraji=2599&lng=2. Have fun!

Travel Tips for Kranjska Gora

Bohinj Valley tour

by stanian

A trip to the bohinj Valley can be arranged with local tour operators, it may seem expensive at first glance but you get direct transport to the area and usually you get expert knowledge from the tour guide.
It is much easier than catching local buses and you get more time in Bohinj. The 1st photo I have included was taken by my wife in July 2001. I feel I have to give her credit for this beautiful photo. A walk around lake Bohinj is about 12 km and can be enjoyed by anyone. Seeing the lake from different angles makes the trip more enjoyable.

pack out your ski bag with outdoor clothes and boots etc, saving space for items to take home with you. Normal clothes for night time, the streets and pavements are kept ice free digital camera is a must these days, canon ixus 2 ( £199.00) is brilliant.

The Spring of Sava Dolinka

by Tinci

Zelenci are known as the spring of river Sava Dolinka. Most of the water runs from walley Tamar. The little lake has a significent green colour- from here the name Zelenci (in slovene Zeleno means Green).
It lies in the swamp which is a leftover from a bigger lake from the Ice Epoch.
The speciality of this lake is that in winter it does not froze- the temperature of water is from 5 to 8 degrees.
In 1992 Zelenci were pronounced for the Nacional Reservation.

PLANICA - AND THE RECORD IS .....

by novsco61

The first human ski jump over 100 metres was achieved here in 1936 by an Austrian Sepp Bradl. In 1969 a new K-185 hill was constructed by Lado and Janez Gorišek. Since 1986, when Matti Nykänen flew 191 metres, the world record hasn't moved from Planica to any other of ski flying hills (e.g. Kulm (Tauplitz or Bad Mitterndorf) in Austria, Harrachov in Czech Republic, Oberstdorf in Germany or Vikersund in Norway).

In 1994 a Finn Toni Nieminen was the first human flying over 200 metres. As of 2005, the world record is 239 metres by Bjørn Einar Romøren of Norway from 2005.
