Dijaski dom Ivana Cankarja

During summer holidays the university student hostels of Ljubljana are used as accommodation for travellers. In summer 2004 I stayed at Dijaski dom Ivana Cankarja (Ivan Cankar Student's Home).

A single room with shared facilities was only 3850 SIT. The room had three beds and was relatively large. Among other things, one advantage of this kind of accomodation is free internet access.

Cheap hostel in ljubljana

by mankteln

Hi, me and three of my friends are arriving into ljubljana around the 8th of august and plan to stay for a few days. I was wondering if anybody could recommend a cheap hostel to stay in, preferably near to the centre of town. Thanks.

I stayed 4 days last year at Bit Center http://www.bit-center.net/hotel_cenik_eng.html it is not in the center but there is a couple of bus line going by the main street at a couple of hundred meter from it. It is VERY good located if you are going by car because it have a big parking lot, it wont be that easy to find a free of charge parking closer to the center. We had a double room with private bathroom for about 50 Euros byt they also have a dormitory with shared bathroom that is much cheaper.
The room where very basic but clean, there was a big window and the bathroom was quite small but had all we needed.
The breakfast is sel services and have a small variety of food. Bread cheese ham and different jams. Cereals, yogurth, maybe fruit and tea, coffee and milk.
The same building is also a gym and you can access it with a 50% discount if you are a guest of the hotel. Outside is a nice place with chair and tables under some umbrellas where you can have a drink after a long day of sitesighting.

There are a couple of cheap and nice hostels in Ljubljana, many of them are quite new. I would recommend the following ones:

- Hostel Celica, an artistically renowned former prison (centrally located and also not far from the bus and railway station)

- H2Ostel (centrally located, by the river, in a green and quiet part of the city)

- Most Hostel (close to H2Ostel)

- Zeppelin (located in the heart of Ljubljana, in the famous building called Europa from the 19th century)

Hope you'll enjoy Ljubljana!

Travel Tips for Ljubljana

Ljubljana Card

by SapineKuu

If you are planning on staying for at least three days you might want to purchase a Ljubljana Card. This costs 12.5 euros and allows you free travel on the bus as well as access to museums and galleries. It also entitles you to discounts in various retail ad food outlets. The card can be purchased from any of the three Tourist Information Centres.

Facades

by bijo69

Do pay attention to the facades while walking around Ljubljana! Many of the beautiful old buildings have been restored and are worth more than a short glimpse.
The one on the pic is on Mikolsiceva Cesta 8.

Slovenian beer and wine

by Canuck5

Slovenia has three winegrowing regions: Podravje, Posavje, and Primorje, and annually they produce between 21 and 24 million gallons. Around 70% of these wines are quality or high-quality, the rest being table wines.

Check out this site for more info on wine production in Slovenia: http://www.matkurja.com/projects/wine/index.html

There are also between 35-50 beers made by 7-10 breweries in the country. The alcohol content is often greater than by North American standards. The beer pictured here is 11.6%.

A trend i saw in the great city was the beautiful houses, almost Terracotta like, they reminded me of something i would see in San Francisco, i was overall impressed with the Arcitecture of this city.

simply walk in Ljubljana !
Ljubljana is a very quiet town for a capital. You can go everywhere very quickly and you've got some really interesting details about architecture and history !
And you'll certainly don't miss the 3 bridges : there you are in the center of the town !
