Centrally located
It was an experience, living two nights in this building where it was possible to feel the presence of the communist times. A very heavy and ugly construction, tremendously austere, where the comfort was clearly a recent adding to tourists.
The room, though looking like a prison cell was large and comfortable, breakfast was minimalist but acceptable, and the price... the cheapest that we found in three stars.
Unique Quality: The location, one minute walking from Preseren, was perfect since we were installed, but hard to arrive or to leave. Though the hotel has some parking slots, the traffic conditioning in the area only allows a couple of hours of circulation each day, which means that we must leave the car out of it. Kongressni trg, also nearby has a parking but very expensive, so we used the parking of Republic square, 200 meters away, where, with a document from the hotel's reception the parking cost 7 € each day, with free entrance and exit anytime we want

Hotel Emonec - a budget 2 star place
This 2 star hotel is in walking distance to the railway and long distance bus station (about 15 minutes) and right near the sights. It is located in a courtyard off Wolfova street. Some of the rooms are in the building next door. There is no lift. I stayed here in October 2011 for 3 nights and paid Euro 188.00 which is not cheap but then accomodation in the center of Ljubljana is expensive.
My room was clean and located above the reception area. I had booked a single and got a double for single use. The towels are small which may difficult if you are used to bigger bathtowels. There was liquid soap in a dispenser on the wall. There was no hook to hang up the shower head to stand under. There were rubbish bins with lids both in the room and the bathroom. In the wardrobe there was an additional blanket which I needed as the duvet is very thin for October.
The free wifi doesn't work in all the rooms, most of the time it worked in room 210 but then it depends on how many people are online. I really liked that there are 3 big sofas in the reception area and people tend to sit there with their laptops and the connection there is excellent. Staff was very friendly. You can buy cold drinks from the reception and coffee.
You may leave your luggage if your train/bus leave later than 11 am.
The breakfast buffet was continental with a variety of teabags, coffees, yoghurts, cereal, 3 different kind of bread slices. I found the packets of wrapped up cold meats or cheese a good thing hygiene wise. I would stay there again any time.

Budget Hotel Right Downtown
This hotel worked out fine for us. Its location is ideal, right in the city center, but relatively quiet (note: there is a nearby disco, so night-time noise might be a problem on Friday and Saturday nights. We stayed on a Monday and Tuesday). The room was spacious, with a private shower and WC. The shower was a bit quirky, with no hook for the shower hose and the shower curtain not quite reaching the floor. The result is you can get standing water in the bathroom if you're not careful. Breakfast was included and served on the ground floor. Coffee comes from a machine around the corner (I found a double "Kapucin" worked well as regular coffee with milk and sugar. Select "white coffee" if you want something resembling Caffe Latte or Cappuccino).
Unique Quality: - Clean, comfortable hotel in the center of town
- Credit Cards accepted

Impressive little hotel
We originally chose this hotel for 3 reasons. One, it appeared to be close to the town centre. Two, it was reasonably priced. And three, it had reasonable reviews on VT, and Trip Advisor. Although the room was small and basic, it was clean and very comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful (searched through a box of left items to get an electrical adaptor - we took the wrong one)! And the location was amazing. It was about one minute walking slowly, to Preseren Square and the triple bridge. But for all its central location, it is tucked away in a quiet corner away from the street. Central and quiet.
Unique Quality: Very central but quiet, comfortable, and excellent staff.

A step above a hostel
When we returned to Ljubljana for our final night in Slovenia, we booked the Hotel Emonec which was recommended in the Rough Guide as a good value. The location was ideal, right near Preseren Square, although most hotels in Ljubljana are centrally located as the city isn't that big. It was a 10-15 minute walk from the bus/train station.
We booked directly with the hotel for 74E per night ($103US). We did not need to reserve with a credit card unless we were to arrive after 17:00.
In a nutshell, it was an OK place to stay for a night but I would not have wanted to stay here for an extended period.
Unique Quality: We got a double room right across from the reception desk so it was a little weird as we could hear people talking and we knew that they could hear us as well. Room was large with high vaulted ceilings (I'm still trying to figure out what the ceiling hook was for), decorated rather plainly in white and blue. Small TV, fan but no AC. The walls were a little thin and we could hear the *ahem* nocturnal activities of another couple which provided some amusement the next morning as we tried to guess which couple it was.
Bathroom-very attractive blue mosaic is the only good thing I have to say about the bathroom, the shower was separated from the rest of the bathroom by just a cloth shower curtain so don't leave anything on the floor or it'll get wet. Towels were the size of postage stamps, barely enough cover your naughty bits if you're a lady. Soap in a wall dispenser that wasn't inside the shower, no hair dryer.
Breakfast was included in the rate, it was the standard bread, cheese, meat, juice, cereal, fruit breakfast buffet that is common in Slovenia.

Central location hard to beat!
2-star hotel. Sterile, but comfy enough rooms all with private bath. Helpful service at front desk but not bursting out of the seems with personality. But it's location, location, location with Hotel Emonec - only a one minute walk from here to Preseren Square! And for the price, I think it's worth it.
Unique Quality: Unbeatable location

Great location and reasonable price
Hotel Emonec is a 2 star hotel right in the center of Ljubljana. The location is superb, within walking distance from everything. Ljubljana is a fairly small capital.
The room we had was on the first floor but we did have to go down a few steps. The room was large, with one window...no real view. It was very clean but had no decoration. Not sure why they don't put a few pictures on the while walls. It would make a big difference.
Nice large bathroom but there is no separation between the shower area and the rest of the bathroom. EVERYTHING will get wet. I already knew that from reading other reviews but it is somewhat of an inconvenience.
There is no need to rent a car to visit Ljubljana but it you have one, the hotel has parking spaces. Make sure you tell them in advance.
Breakfast is included in the price of the room. However, it's not a very good breakfast and I strongly suggest that you go to the coffee shop, about 20 meters on the right when you exit the hotel. They have nice pastries and a decent cappucino.
The coffee was horrible. First time in my life that I could not drink the coffee served in a restaurant.
The price of the double room was 70 Euros which is inexpensive in this city. The cost of all the other centrally located hotels was much higher.
Unique Quality: Superb location within walking distance of everything
Pleasant and helpful staff. VISA card accepted.

Excellent location
This 2 star hotel is very well located right in the middle of the city centre about 100m from Preseren Square. The room I had was in the annex across the courtyard from the main building. It was fairly small with a smallish double bed, TV, cheap looking waldrobe and a small a/c unit which was definitely needed as it was July! The bathroom had a very small walk in shower which didn't have much water pressure. Breakfast wasn't much with cereals, breads and jams and coffee/tea and juice. There was also meat and cheese that came in packs of 3. Staff were very friendly and yes you still have to ask for large towels! All-in-all, I didn't want anything fancy and considering the price and compared with others located away from the city centre, it was a good option.

An hotel in the city center.
Our room was little, but nice. It had basic furniture. The only drawback was the shower. When we had to use it, all the bathroom was flooded, because the curtain was too short and the shower base was non existent.
Buffet breakfast was ok. Every morning we had bread, jam, cornflakes, cheese, ham, salami. Coffee, cappuccino and chocolate.
In front of the hotel there is a small shop where you can buy cheap snacks and drinks.
Unique Quality: Hotel Emonec is not far from Preseren Square.
It has a cheap private parking.

Cheap and clean in the heart of the city
Neat, practical, newly refurbished, internal parking place for customers.
Unique Quality: A very practical lodgement, 100 metres away from the "three bridges". The hotel is located in an internal yard: be careful of the signs on the road otherwise you'll miss it.

Hotel Emonec or Hostel Celica?
I am driving form Split to Ljubljana at the end of August. Has anyone ever used Sixt rental company or made the drive? Also I am trying to decide whether to stay at Hotel Emonec with ensuite bathroom or pension celica with shared? Thanks for your help.
Re: Hotel Emonec or Hostel Celica?
Several VT members including myself have stayed at the Emonec Hotel. Check out the Ljubljana page for specific info. I would stay again at the Emonec hotel because of its location but don't drink their coffee :-)

Re: Hotel Emonec or Hostel Celica?
I would book again at hotel Emonec again. The only problem was the shower there.
Re: Hotel Emonec or Hostel Celica?
I've just explained to you about this problem before.
Re: Hotel Emonec or Hostel Celica?
I agree, Maurizio.
Everybody complains about the showers at the Emonec. I don't know why they don't fix it the damn shower stall :-)
