by picek
For those independent visitors who'd like to get information on Maribor and its running activities, there's spot to get all what they need: at Tourist information centre in a glassy low block, at Partizanska street (that's next to the large brick built, green roofed Franciscan church, or few steps across the road from Kojak monument).
The whole set of activites can be find on their web site but in general:
go there to book tours or get ideas what to do on your own, get free brochures and maps, buy better maps, souvenirs or just ask about anything what bothers your stay. It's right place to ask!

Grajski trg
by croisbeauty
The medieval Castle of Maribor stands on Grajski trg (Castle Square). In the castle was the seat of the Maribor provincial counts from the end of the Middle Ages. It is a home of Museum now. Baroque manor house boasts with the beautiful grand staircases and a decorated walls with rich stuccowork and a painted ceiling.
The Well
by croisbeauty
This beautifully decorated medieval well stands right befind the Old Castle and next to the statue to poet Jurcic. It remind us at the past times when people had to take the water away from their homes. At the same time, while waiting for the water, it was a kind of meeting point, place to exchange the news or just to talk to each other, something we miss in this days.
Fantastic Maori Chor
by croisbeauty
Well, it was very pleasant surprise hearing the fantastic group of young people from New Zeland singing Maori songs on the Main Square of Maribor. I didn't catch the name of the chor but they were just fantastic performing folk songs and dances from their people. Great experience!
want something Balkanese to warm up your stomach?
by picek about Stari Grill
Given the fact that Slovenia lays in the beginning of Balkans and that it have large numbers of Serbians, Bosniaks, Macedonians and Kosova people living in Maribor it's not surprising that you'll be able to find some of the restaurants/bars serving delicious Balkanese foods in the middle of city. One of the most popular is called Stari Grill at Glavni trg, right in the old town (next to Casino). It's often full, it has good atmosphere and you'll be able to eat probably the best kajmak (cheese) with lepinja (bread) in town there. If you like meat, they have other traditional stuff there (most famous pleskavica and cevapcici). lepinje (bread) with kajmak (white soft cheese, quite salty one) and lots of fresh onions.
