This is a nice quite little town that makes for a good half day of walking. It has a quality that some how feels different from most of the quaint old town. it is also a nice train ride out during the winter lots of snow filled pastures. Make sure that you get off in town because the station on the edge of town makes for an unpleasant trip into town if you can't walk into town rounding up a taxi was an effort .
A nice little town between Ljubljana and Zagreb.
Novo Mesto means new town, but it was built in the middle ages, it was its fastuous time.
Since then it has kept some part of the initial archtecture : the downtown on the hill above the Krka river.
lots of small streets, some old buildings. The most noticable ones are the two chuchs and the town council building
Novo Mesto is the economic and cultural centre of the Dolenjska region. It is situated at the crossroads of the main traffic routes in the middle of a hilly landscape just above the Krka river meander.
The town was founded in 1365 by the Rudolf IV von Hapsburg in purpose to firm a base of the Hapsburgs in their advance towards the Adriatic sea.
