Toursit Information Centre
by Willettsworld
The Tourist Information Centre can be found opposite Bled Casino on Cesta Svobode. Here you can pick up the usual maps, guidebooks, leaflets and general info on all the attractions in and around the town. They also have helpful staff who can help out about getting to Vintgar Gorge.
the rain
by COHbKA
It was drizzling all the way to the Triglav National Park Tourist Information Bureau (we went there to - unsuccessfully - try to get the maps and some info for the hike), but on the way back we got cought in a real downpour. We waited it out in a little wooden shelter in the woods, with the view of the lake... Cold...but dry and v. romantic :)
Romantic trip on the lake in a traditional Pletna
by GillianMcLaughlin
The Pletna is a sort of gondola, steered and motored by a muscular chappie with 2 oars. There were none on the lake the day I was there, but as you can see from the photo, the Pletnas themselves are very photogenic, and I do have a soft spot for traditional wooden boats.
The general programme is that you pay the ferry man for the half-hour or so trip to the island, he leaves you there for another half an hour and brings you back. I can't speak from experience however.
You can hire you man of choice from a number of points round the lake (see transport tips) and just take off. I can't guarantee a serenade, but who needs "O sole mio" when you have such an amazing view?!
The church of St. Martin
by croisbeauty
The neo-Gothic styled church consecrated to Saint Martin, was built in 1905 on the site of the previous Gothic church dating from the 15th century. It is situated right bellow the steep cliff where the Castle of Bled rises.
Pletna boat
by vesna04
There is a lot of history connecting to this boat. In the time of empress Maria Theresa 20 families were given the rights to transport the people to the island so at that time the only way to reach the island was with them. This "Pletna business" goes on from generation to generation ever since.
