Lake Bled Island
by olja1234
Lake Bled Island impressis with its simplicity. 99 stairs lead to the top of the island. Once on the top, it's "a must" to visit St.Mary's Church, there are a Wishing bell, a restaurant, a souvenir shop...
This magical island is also a romantic place for wedding ceremony.
The local customs say - the groom has to carry the bride up the 99 stairs in order to have happy marriage. (Pretty hard work, indeed)
Take a walk around the lake with your sweety
by zrim
Lake Bled is a romantic spot with the magnificent island church and the medieval castle looming from atop the steep cliff. Nothing better than taking a late afternoon stroll around the lake. It is 6 km to circle the lake so plan on taking at least an hour for the walk and another hour or so to climb up the hill and visit the castle.
On Bled Castle...
by coceng
Bled Castle is 100 m above the lake, perched on a cliff.
The castle is built on 2 levels, dates back from 11th century.
Though what we could see around the castle now is from the 16th century.
For 800 years, it was the seat of the Bishops of Brixen, who regularly decorated the place.
Islet with a view
by maple_air
We arrived on Bled's islet via the backdoor. After going up a steep flight of steps, this is what awaits for us at the top, a breathtaking view. Mind you , its a 360 degree amazing view anywhere in the islet. Anywhere you turn you'd just go snap mad with your camera. If not for the cold and rain that day, it would be difficult not to take a dip on the cold blue-green water of the lake.
Rowing
by Dabs
Slovenia's 1st Olympic gold medal was in rowing at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney and the first medal of any sort was a bronze medal for rowing at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, the country's most successful rowers train in Bled at the Bled Rowing Club. There are regattas on the lake during the year in spring and autumn and in June there is the Bled International Regatta.
We saw lots of rowers out training during our walk around the lake.
