Hotel Vila Bled - impressive stairs to the lake by GillianMcLaughlin If sleeping in the same place as royalty and heads of state, the Hotal Vila Bled is the place for you. Once owned by Tito, the former president of yugoslavia, since 1984 the Vila Bled has been open to the public as a luxury hotel. It claims the distinction of being the first hotel in the former Eastern Bloc countries to be included in the luxury french chain French chain of Relais & Châteaux. Even in low season you won't find a room for less than 160 euro. If you fancy the best of the best, the Presidential Suite will set you back 400 euro per night.
There is no doubting that this hotel commands the most spectacular views across Bled Lakeand it has a high reputation for its food. Recently refurbished, its website boasts 1950s decor, but the photos still suggest a flavour of the east to me (the furnishings are predominantly brown and I could swear I saw a dralon-covered sofa). I haven't stayed here so I don't speak from experience. However if you are planning a visit to the town of Bled, I did think that you might want to be aware of this option for a hotel, or else, perhaps just a cocktail on the terrace. Well, I haven't actually stayed here. Just came for a walk in their back yard to enjoy the beautiful garden and the view of the lake.

Tranquil setting amidst a large garden, with a tennis court and covered lido. Retro-style 1950s decor, where due to heritage preservation they cannot even modernise their wooden windows facing the lake. Very grand, attractive frontage leading to the main entrance. The lobby is very attractive, staff very friendly, clean minimalistic rooms and bathrooms. Nice restaurant and welcoming long bar, with an assortment of cigars inside glass display cabinets, for sale!
A Relais & Chateaux property (like Zagreb's Regent Esplanade), a group that operates some top heritage castles/mansions in Europe. So, you can be assured of a top-notch stay :) Private tennis court and covered lido plus arrangement to use Hotel Toplice's indoor pool. Beautiful gardens, can also access the hotel off the lakeside walk. The hotel has a private function hall 'Belvedere' a mere 2 minutes walk along lakeside walk. With their private boat dock, one is well placed to reach Bled Island which is quite closeby. Near the main road leading south to Bohinj, and a 5 minutes walk west of the Straza ski hill.Website: www.vila-bled.com
