Post Time

by ramblingrose

Does anyone know approximately how long it takes for a postcard mailed in Bled to reach the United States?

Re: Post Time

Like most places in Western Europe, it should take between 2 and 7 working days.

Assuming you are sending it priority mail (that's extra postage, I think +0,35 euro at the moment - next to 0,4 for a standard postcard and the card gets that blue airmail/priority mail sticker next to the stamps), then around a week (that's my experience for sending mail to different places in the U.S.A.). But it mostly depends on where in the U.S.A., since it's there that it can get tangled. The longest it took it was 10 work days for somewhere in California.

Thanks so much for your quick replies!

"Priority mail" is a complete con, at least from Europe, I know that for a fact (a postie told me -20 yrs ago but I'd imagine it's the same now, as I was enquiring about how this "priority" thing worked, out of curiosity).
If you want the post to get to the USA w/i 24 hrs guaranteed, the only way is FEDex, DHL or UPS. Obviously, for a postcard, that would be a little extreme.
"Priority Mail" is treated exactly the same as the other bog standard post and will not get to its destination any quicker.

At least from Slovenia priority mail IS the standard mail (for regular - as in not media or packages - mail to other continents). If you send post by regular mail you can only guess when it will arrive. It can be 10 days. Or a month. I think it gets stuck HERE if it's sent by regular mail (I'm assuming they send it forward when there's space). Mind you, I don't have any inside knowledge, just a personal experience of sending mail all over the world on frequent basis for years. I don't know if it's an official rule or a habit, but postal workers here (at least the ones I've met) automatically add the priority sticker (and postage) if you are sending a letter from Slovenia to USA at the post office. But if they treat it as regular mail in the USA that explains different times to different places there...

But I do know there's a huge difference with priority mail when sending to Europe from Slovenia - that takes 2 days, 3 days max (and regular mail can take anywhere from a week to ten days).

Yes, that's what I was saying, priority mail is treated just the same as standard mail, ie it'll arrive in the USA exactly the same day as just ordinary post. In some countries, PM is or sued to be delivered slightly before than the rest of the post (say 8AM instead of 10AM -for the average round), but I reckon they're doing away with that now

Travel Tips for Bled

Walk the Lake

by markyg

The Lake. It takes about an hour to walk around the lake, a leisurely stroll. There are many facets to the lake from a small water park for the family on one side, to the local houses on the far side, to the beach/boat rentals, to the manors and restaurants right back into town.

How to get to Bled

by croisbeauty

The Lake of Bled is situated in the north-western part of Slovenia, just about 55 km from the capital of Ljubljana. It is surrounded with Julian Alps and Karavanke. Take the main road from Ljubljana in direction of Kranj and you can't miss it.

Bled Today

by blaird

Between WWI and WWII, Bled was a cosmopolitan spa and the summer residence of the Yugoslav royal family. It was visited by many and became a center of political and diplomatic life in the summer.

After WWII it was renovated and became even more touristy. Since Tito had a residence in Vila Bled, Bled was visited by many statesmen and politicians from Yugoslavia and abroad.

On Bled Castle...

by coceng

Wander around the castle, take a peek of everything you see.
Although the compound of the castle belong to the Old Age but we have the feeling that almost everything has been altered to suit the tourists coming here.
Just my opinions from my own observations on the castle.
The photo shows an altar, maybe from the Old Age ?

....Bells.....and wishes....

by maple_air

The fairytale-picture doesn't only end in the presence of this medieval church/ chapel, in this country's only islet, in the middle of a pristine, blue-green beautiful lake, it is only the beginning.

And like all other fairytales, with happy endings, it all starts with a wish.

Inside this church, you will see a rope dangling from the ceiling, attached to the bell, and as they say, as you pull that rope...close your eyes, and make a wish.
