GlobTour: Worst apartment experience for us

We booked our accommodation through GLOBTOUR BLED. According to their website, our “apartment” was a 3* apartment for two people.

I really would not have liked to have seen a 2* apartment. Our room was in a basement (one very small window). In our hallway was the boiler for the house, which continuously smelt of oil and the noise was terrible. Our bedroom/living room/dining room (all in one) fitted a double bed and nothing much else. You could barely walk around the bed without chipping your toe on a step or the ‘dining table’. The so called kitchen had a fridge, sink, 2 electric rings and that was it. No kettle, barely any condiments, cutlery, or much else.

The shower room again was small, dirty and had no ventilation/no window.

I emailed the company before going out for pictures of the apartment. Now I am not surprised why they couldn’t supply any. Also if they tell you that it is 10 minutes from the town center, they really mean 20!

I know the rates for the apartment were inexpensive, but if they could have prepared us for what we got we mightn’t have minded so much. The web site is very misleading, they would certainly benefit from photographs.

Pension Zerovc: Bled Pension

Because of a problem with our reservation one night at Pension Berc, We ended up staying at Pension Zerovc.

It was August and we got the last room. It was clean and perfectly acceptable.

Pension Zerovc is located in Mlinska which is just outside Bled town. Its a 5 min walk down to the lake where there are a couple of restaurants and bars and another 10/15 mins walk around the lake to town.

Overall this was a perfectly acceptable place to stay for one night but the rooms at Pension Berc were better and slightly cheaper and Berc is better located

Very helpful owner who lent us a detailed map and suggested an itinerary for the day (which we would not have found for ourselves). Breakfast was also very good

Pension Berc: Good value Hotel in Bled

We stayed at Pension Berc. Its a beautifully clean, airy and well decorated small hotel and only a short walk into the town. The owners are very helpful as well.

The owners have two hotels, one opposite the other both of which are called pension Berc. I think one may be slightly more expensive than the other. We stayed at the cheaper of the two.

My only problem was with reservations. It was August (and booking ahead is essential in Bled in August) and I had booked via the internet - but there were problems. My advice is make sure you receive a confirmation of your booking

Apartmaji Zupancic: Far from the Madding Crowd

The place is located in a quiet village with great views of the mountains. Even though it's very close to Bled (about 3km) you are not surrounded by packs of tourists. The landlady was very friendly and happy to accomodate each and every request we had. Starting with special requests for breakfast and going on with helping us getting information about the weather. When we got late one night after a long drive to Croatia, she waited until we wer eback before going to bed...

The B&B has a separate entrance so you can come and go as you like. The rooms were recently renovated and were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was rich and the landlady was happy to prepare us everything we asked for.

Mayer Penzion

I cannot recommed this place highly enough. The room was comfotable and spacious, with a partial view of the lake and a great view of the castle. The staff were very welcoming and the lady in charge spoke at least 4 different languages. I'd also recommend the attached restaurant for dinner (see Restaurant tips). It cost 65 Euro for a room, with an excellent breakfast included. When I return to Bled I will definitely stay here again.

Hotel Jadran: Small room

Three star hotel booked because it is only about 50yards from Lake Bled. Our room was small, to say the least - suitcases stayed on the bed during the day and there was just enough room to put them on the floor at night. Dark room. Plumbing not satisfactory - shower ran from freezing cold to boiling hot.

Could not complain about service or meals.

We moved to another hotel!

There weren't any!

Pri Biscu farmhouse: Nearby farmhouse

Great farmhouse (as most are in Slovenia)! Located in Zasip, about 3km outside of Bled, perfect if you have a car, walkable if you don't. Truly the best farmhouse breakfast I had. On top of the homemade juices, cheese and breads, they offered scrambled eggs and french toast. For only $5 more than the hostel, a great deal.

Sauna ($5)
Great breakfast

Vila Gorenka: Great little hotel (and inexpensive!)

What a great find! Very friendly and clean, the triple rooms have private balconies overlooking lake bled. Metres from the town centre. Plus it's less expensive than the youth hostel!
What's the catch? It's a little hard to find (and harder to drive to).
Take the road beside Bled Pub, and then take the staircase on the left about 60m up the hill. Past the life-size crucifix, it's the house stright ahead with the big balconies. It looks a little "rustic" on the outside, but it's very nice inside.

Hotel Golf

The four star Hotel Golf is one of the larger hotels in Bled (150 rooms) with indoor and outdoor pools which over look the lake and the surrounding mountains. There are two restaurants, a free fitness room, sauna, message & beauty treatments. (none of which I tried as there wasn't enough time)

The hotel is perfectly located, steps at the back lead to the small shopping centre, just beyond that is the Lake.
Rooms with a view of the lake are available for an extra charge the views from the other side of the hotel are just as spectacular.

The rooms are of a reasonable size with balcony, shower and television showing satellite television (useful to catch up on the World Cup results which was taking place when we went!) We stayed half board which included an all you can eat buffet breakfast. The usual items were available, cereals, yogurt, bread (and toaster available), local cheese, cold meats, bacon etc. Along with tea, coffee and choice of fruit juice
Evening meals were also of high quality. You have your choice of one of three main meals which included shark steaks, stews and tuna.
There were also options for first course, usually soup or cold meat. For desert there is usually a choice of either cake or fruit. Vegetarians are not well catered for in the choices for the main meal but there was a good choice in the salad bar and again this was all you can eat.

Meals are served in a large dining room with views of the mountains beyond. You are designated a table at the start of your stay and this remains your table for the duration of your holiday.
The restaurant also has a good wine list. Worth trying as the local wines are not exported.

If you are going to be out until later in the evening you can arrange for a 'cold platter' to be delivered to your room. This is a mix of salad, cold meat, fruit and carton of drink. Great for eating on the balcony!

Penzion Bledec...: Youth Hostel...

This was the bed that I slept on, in the dormitory in Penzion Bledec !
It was so cozy after all the activities that I had done in & around Bled, coming back to the bed to lie upon & to sleep on.
There are several rooms.
Girls & guys are mixed in the rooms. At least when I was there 'cos there was a Finnish girl occupying the bed in my room.

This hostel also has an Internet room, a TV room, a bar & a parking area.

Penzion Bledec...: Youth Hostel...

I stayed at Penzion Bledec, which is a Youth Hostel & one of the most beautiful Youth Hostels in Europe !
It was so comfortable & the receptions girls were just so polite & very helpful.
That's one reason why I would want to stay her in Bled !

All the photos are from their brochure.

Penzion Bledec is about 5 minutes walking to the lake & only 10 minutes walking/hiking up the Castle Bled ! It is so convenience...

YHA hostel in Bled: Penzion Bledec

Nice accomodation in a residential neighborhood in Bled, the rooms are really large and each of them have their own bathroom.

Located 5 minutes walking to the lake, and 10 minutes to the castle, there is a restaurant adjacent and a very generous breakfast is included with the night fee.
