Garni Penzion Berc: Reasonably priced accomodations

Garni Penzion Berc was one of the hotels recommended in the Rough Guide along with Penzion Mayer next door, Penzion Berc was slightly less expensive and had responded to my email first so I decided to book there. The Penzion Berc is a lovely renovated 11 room farm house which blends in with the Alpine scenery, breakfast and the lobby were in a similar building next door. If Penzion Berc doesn't have availability, there is also Garni Hotel Berc which was slightly more expensive and newer, opened in 2005.

While you do not have a view of Lake Bled from the Penzion, it's within walking distance of Lake Bled, parking is free.

The double room rate was 65E which is the full season price, they do not take credit cards and I did not have to reserve with one. I was able to reserve via email which can be found on the website or below.

The double room was spacious and decorated in a modern what I'd call IKEA like fashion, lots of natural wood in the room and the bathroom. The beds were reasonably comfortable. There was cable TV and a balcony in each room, ours overlooked the Penzion's other building.

Bathroom-in the room, no soap in the shower, it was in a dispenser by the sink, not other toiletries. Although there was a device in the shower to make the hand held shower into a wall shower, we couldn't get it to stay put and after being bopped in the head a couple of times when it fell I gave up. There was a hair dryer.

Breakfast is included in the rate, the standard breakfast of meat, cheese, fruit, cereal, juice, tea/coffee and they offer to make you a hard boiled egg.

Various: Other lodging options

I would say that our accomodations at the Garni Penzion Berc was in the middle of the price range at 65E for a double, it was important to me to have a private bath and this penzion plus Penzion Mayer seemed to both be good value.

For the more budget oriented there is camping, private accomodations and a youth hostel.

For more luxurious accomodations you might have a look at Vila Bled, Vila Preseren or Grand Hotel Toplice which all seem to be lakefront properties.

We probably didn't need to reserve in advance but if you come during July and August, you are advised to do so.

Mayer Penzion

I cannot recommed this place highly enough. The room was comfotable and spacious, with a partial view of the lake and a great view of the castle. The staff were very welcoming and the lady in charge spoke at least 4 different languages. I'd also recommend the attached restaurant for dinner (see Restaurant tips). It cost 65 Euro for a room, with an excellent breakfast included. When I return to Bled I will definitely stay here again.

Vila Gorenka: Great little hotel (and inexpensive!)

What a great find! Very friendly and clean, the triple rooms have private balconies overlooking lake bled. Metres from the town centre. Plus it's less expensive than the youth hostel!
What's the catch? It's a little hard to find (and harder to drive to).
Take the road beside Bled Pub, and then take the staircase on the left about 60m up the hill. Past the life-size crucifix, it's the house stright ahead with the big balconies. It looks a little "rustic" on the outside, but it's very nice inside.

Pri Biscu farmhouse: Nearby farmhouse

Great farmhouse (as most are in Slovenia)! Located in Zasip, about 3km outside of Bled, perfect if you have a car, walkable if you don't. Truly the best farmhouse breakfast I had. On top of the homemade juices, cheese and breads, they offered scrambled eggs and french toast. For only $5 more than the hostel, a great deal.

Hotel Golf

The four star Hotel Golf is one of the larger hotels in Bled (150 rooms) with indoor and outdoor pools which over look the lake and the surrounding mountains. There are two restaurants, a free fitness room, sauna, message & beauty treatments. (none of which I tried as there wasn't enough time)

The hotel is perfectly located, steps at the back lead to the small shopping centre, just beyond that is the Lake.
Rooms with a view of the lake are available for an extra charge the views from the other side of the hotel are just as spectacular.

The rooms are of a reasonable size with balcony, shower and television showing satellite television (useful to catch up on the World Cup results which was taking place when we went!) We stayed half board which included an all you can eat buffet breakfast. The usual items were available, cereals, yogurt, bread (and toaster available), local cheese, cold meats, bacon etc. Along with tea, coffee and choice of fruit juice
Evening meals were also of high quality. You have your choice of one of three main meals which included shark steaks, stews and tuna.
There were also options for first course, usually soup or cold meat. For desert there is usually a choice of either cake or fruit. Vegetarians are not well catered for in the choices for the main meal but there was a good choice in the salad bar and again this was all you can eat.

Meals are served in a large dining room with views of the mountains beyond. You are designated a table at the start of your stay and this remains your table for the duration of your holiday.
The restaurant also has a good wine list. Worth trying as the local wines are not exported.

If you are going to be out until later in the evening you can arrange for a 'cold platter' to be delivered to your room. This is a mix of salad, cold meat, fruit and carton of drink. Great for eating on the balcony!

Pension Tiffany: Feel At Home!

This is a place where you can feel at home. Choose among very comfortable apartments with 3 or 4 beds, a bathroom, a kitchen and a balcony.

It's perfect for families with children because the location is off the main road, but close to the centre.

Hotel Krek: Nice and clean

This hotel was a good choice since we went to Slovenia by car. It is about 5 km from Bled but it was fine for us. It is a new place with modern rooms and nice bathrooms. The breakfast was served buffet style and was good. The only negative ting is the clossenes of the motorway but when the balcony door was closed the noice was minimal.
It has its own free parking and for the fee you can park your car indoor.

Pletna Bled B & B: Wonderful place

Absolutely wonderful place to stay, directly on the Lake. We were offered great service by our hosts and the price for lakeside accommodation is excellent. This is a small, family run establishment. There is no dining room so your breakfast is delivered to your room at the time ordered the night before. They did not ask for anything in advance and do not accept credit or debit cards. Location is fab with a balcony view of the lake and the swim area is directly in front of the accommodation. The main road is directly in front of the accommodation but the noise did not bother us at all, double glazed patio doors kept all the noise away. A big recommendation from Mrs Davesut who also recommends the shop here as well for tourist gubbins.
We were worried about parking in Bled but with this parking on the Lake, 15 mins walk from Bled centre, it was as close to the centre as the main car parks.

Penzion Berc, Bled: Penzion Berc, Bled - Fantastic place!

Owned and run by a very helpful and friendly family, this pension is one of my favourite places. Our room had a lovely sunny terrace with 2 chairs and a table - perfect for relaxing with a glass of wine!

They have a free internet connection for guests to use in their lobby, and free mountain bikes to borrow whenever you feel like it. Plus they have a small lounge area with an honesty bar, and a book exchange - it's a bit like a cross between the best bits of a ski chalet and a well run hostel, with rooms the standard of a decent hotel.

Breakfasts are excellent, buffet style for the most part, but they cook you fresh eggs if you want them.

There is also a Hotel Berc across the road - This is owned by the same family, and looks very nice (I would expect that it is more expensive than the pension)

- Friendly welcome
- Free use of mountain bikes
- Free internet
- Lounge with Honesty bar and book exchange
- Excellent breakfasts
- Good location within easy walking distance of town centre and lake

Bledec hostel: Hostel

The Bledec hostel is just a 5min walk up the hill from the bus station in Bled town on Gorje number 50a on the left. Its just a 5min walk to the lake and only 10min to the castle. We got a double room for 9500SIT(£28) which includes breakfast. The room was clean and very spacious. The breakfast was ham and cheese and rolls. The hostel has a great restaurant with great food at great prices. We had lunch(omellette, lasagne, chips and drink for 3110SIT(£9) and dinner(steak, pasta and 1 litre of wine for 4400SIT-£13) there. The lady who runs it is helpful too.

Penzion Bledec...: Youth Hostel...

I stayed at Penzion Bledec, which is a Youth Hostel & one of the most beautiful Youth Hostels in Europe !
It was so comfortable & the receptions girls were just so polite & very helpful.
That's one reason why I would want to stay her in Bled !

All the photos are from their brochure.

Penzion Bledec is about 5 minutes walking to the lake & only 10 minutes walking/hiking up the Castle Bled ! It is so convenience...

Penzion Bledec...: Youth Hostel..

This is the reception area where I got all my infos on Bled, all the things that I wanted to know.
Also, it was here I got to know about Vintgar Gorge; about Lake Bohinj & how to reach the lake on Sunday.
They were so very helpful !

It has 13 rooms with 55 beds. Mostly 3, 4 or 5 beds per room.
Every room has a shower & WC

Penzion Bledec...: Youth Hostel...

This was the bed that I slept on, in the dormitory in Penzion Bledec !
It was so cozy after all the activities that I had done in & around Bled, coming back to the bed to lie upon & to sleep on.
There are several rooms.
Girls & guys are mixed in the rooms. At least when I was there 'cos there was a Finnish girl occupying the bed in my room.

This hostel also has an Internet room, a TV room, a bar & a parking area.
