History in Print!
by maple_air
Inside Bled castle, is this 16th century , "Functional", printing press, from Gutenburg's time. If you want , you can buy christmas cards or any cards from here. Amazing how they still use the machine and other tools they have centuries ago to make cards or prints. The master printer ( or that man in the fancy costume) even gives you the chance to take part in the printing process. The material used to make the paper are all from the local area. I HAVE THE EVIDENCE!...IN BLACK AND WHITE...as they say....literally!.... that i have been to Bled. My bestfriend and I got this card from the printing press, as our souvenir, aside from the pictures and the memories we have of the place. Coming to this place on its millennium year is an added bonus as well.
Bled: the wonderful friendly locals...
by europebn
I really enjoyed it here because as soon as we got there, we were being offered help by the locals.
The train station is outside the city, so a teenager told us what bus to take.
Then on the bus, the driver (without us asking) told us it was the second stop to the hostel.
Trying to find the hostel, a local told us (again, without us asking) that we should go in a different direction to reach a hostel, and also recommended a good pizza restaurant.
World Chess Olympics 2002
by europebn
Bled hosted the World Chess Olympics in 2002, which made the peaceful town buzzing for a few nights. We couldn't believe how big this was, especially when we arrived at the hockey rink (where it was held) and found probably over 10000 people crammed into the place. We also tried counting all the country flags, and there were at least 140!
We only saw the opening ceremonies, which were quite cool, and finished off with fireworks going off over Lake Bled and around the castle. Good times!
Scenic Views...

The great thing being on the castle is the scenic views it could offer down below, to the lake & the surrounding areas around the lake.
I was there ad dawn, so everything was almost purplish, the sun was almost down the horizon...
Ring the Bell
by travelbug102
On visits to the church on Bled Island, don't forget to ring the bell and make a wish. For what it's worth - it worked for me as my last wish came true.
A word of advice - tug the rope gentle but firmly 3-4 times. This will get the bell to ring. Some folks jerk it real hard or fast and they accomplish nothing. Some were evening pulling so hard that they were swinging on the robe across the church's floor. I will try to post a funny picture of that.
