Traveling to Bled

by Mrod1026

Hi! I'll be traveling to Bled and was wondering how long does the trip Bled to the airport takes? Also, any reccomendation for restaurants and must-see places would be gretly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The airport is in Ljubljana - Brnik Airport
Ljubljana - Brnik (LJU) Airport is located 35 kilometres from Bled.
We took a Bus — A public bus can be taken from in front of the terminal building. The bus will travel first to Kranj bus station (app 15 mins, about USD2) and from there you can transfer to a bus to Bled (app 30 mins, about USD4), which usually runs hourly. The Kranj bus service runs from 5:30 am to 11pm.

Taxi — A taxi can be hailed from the front of the terminal building. Travel time to the city centre is about 40 mins and fare is about USD 50. It is recommended that you confirm the fare before boarding the taxi.

Bled is about natural beauty. Everything surrounds the Lake. In the center of the lake on Slovenia's only real island is the Church of the Assumption. It dates back hundreds of years. For 12 Euros you could row out to the island for a closer look .

Then there is Vintgar Gorge .We thought the 1600 meter hike around the Gorge is the best part of Bled. Truly spectacular.

Bled castle . Dramatically perched on the 130 meter rocky cliffs of Bled Lake stands one of the oldest medieval fortresses in Slovenia. It dates back to 1011. You can catch a bus from town and take a visit or you can walk...but its uphill !!The view from the top alone makes it worth it.
Entrance 5E.
Hope this helps.

Travel Tips for Bled

"Swan Lake"

by vesna04

The Bled lake is home to lot of these wonderful and elegant birds. Numerous signs are put around a lake to worn the people not to disturb them. My advice is to follow the warnings, otherwise you can be punish by the birds themself as they can be very agressive especialy when they have the youngsters.
But if you "behave well" you can enjoy waching them walking around or glading in the water. I saw some people feeding them but I don't know is that allowed.

Up The Castle...

by coceng

I went up the Bled Castle (Blejski Grad) after coming back from Vintgar Gorge - (photos on my Triglav National Park page).

It was just behind the Pension Bledec, the Youth Hostel where I was staying for 2 nights. So convenience !
First, had to climb the hill, quite steep.
Paid for the ticket, another steep entrance & I was at the top !
The photo is showing the entrance of the castle.

A walk to remember...........

by maple_air

There is a 3.5 mile bike/foot path around the lake. Which gives you the chance to further explore the area and look at the lake from different sides. There are hiking paths up into the hills surrounding the lake or up to Bled's cliffside castle.

If you can't be bothered to walk or pedal your way around the lake, there is Tourist train that you can take or for a more romantic and relax way to see the area, hop on a horse drawn-carriage. ....the still, blue lake.....sleeping ducks...a group of swan....the islet in the lake....the pletnas.....looking up at the castle on the cliff..........children playing around....the smiles and hellos of fellow tourist and the locals........singing in the rain......A lifetime of memories!

The lake and its surroundings

by MEdelmann

Bled consists of five villages and they are located around the lake, most of the hotels can be found on the east back of the lake. At the north there is the castle on the rock 139 meters above the lake.

The picture shows the east bank of the lake and at the very left there can be seen the Bled castle.

Swimming

by easterntrekker

Instead of swimming at the public beach , which is often crowded or paying for a day pass for the private beach club, the locals have little swimming holes all along the lake . Sometimes you have to climb down a steep bank but the water is clear and deep. We had our best swim this way!!!
