Otocec Castle: Scenic setting for Island Castle hotel

The hotel is a converted castle – this is more the German definition of a castle than the traditional English concept with battlements and dungeons! It is more of a grand stately home / mansion although does have a couple of turrets. Castle or not is mere semantics however, this place feels special. Built on an island on the river it has a beautiful setting.
Lovely hotel, large rooms with a faded grandeur feel, all rooms come with bathroom and expected amenities. Although they state they are a 5 star hotel the feel is more of a 4 star establishment.
We came here to see if it would be good for our wedding - and we think we are going ahead with it as a venue. So be warned this is a popular palce for weddings eespecially Saturdays in Summer - there were 7 here on the Saturday we were here!

The breakfast is the standard cold meat and cheese with hot frankfurters and scrambled egg affair with the standard cereals juices coffee etc. Personally I love it but if you are expecting full English then look elsewhere – I imagine quite a distance away!
There is a top restaurant with a dizzying menu, the food was good but quite hit and miss some dishes were great others to be honest quite poor. Any vegetables served were horrendously overdone.
As for price, it is not cheap budget accommodation but it is worth splashing out for a night or two for this traditional setting. I think it was about 100US$ pp for a double room for one night
Tit is really close to the read so dead easy to find but also a source of some intrusive noise that impacts on the tranquil nature of the place.

Associated to the place are three other accommodation options, the Sport Hotel which is a nice 3 star normal hotel, some bungalows which are OK and a motel which should be for real backpackers only - didn't look very nice.

Unique Quality: Great views on the river.
Tradtional banqueting halls and burning torches on the outside walls after dark
