Hotel Reina Cristina, Algeciras, Spain - Reviews and Hotel Information

Spent a couple of nights in March at this 100 years old hotel which has recently come under new management. The food was good, with full buffet style eating and plenty of choice. The bathroom was clean and the linen and towels were fine. Furniture was dated but this is in keeping with the style of the hotel. Excellent choice of hotel for exploring the area (Campo de Gibraltar) and even going over to Morocco on a short side trip as the fery terminal was within 20 mins walk. Hotel has 'entertainments' in the evening aimed at the 'all inclusive' guests who come on packages. A welcome diversion in the evening. Popular with regulars during winter months who enjoy the ambience and location.

The hotel dates back to the days before television when entertaiment was talking, dancing, playing bridge and generally mingling. Much of the original decor is still untouched and it has a lovely old colonial style. You can imagine officers from the garrison at Gibraltar coming over to stay at the Cristina before taking the steam train up to Ronda for the overnight 'excursion'. It is still an excellent base for all these trips. And it still enjoys a lovely garden with open air swimming pool.
