Although are food was included in our Hotel stay you could eat in the a la carte restaurant for half the price, its also opened to non staying guests as well, the food was lovely and freshly prepared. The fish in Algeciras was some of the best i have tasted.

"Algeciras"

We stayed in Algeciras quite a few days...and managed to stay busy!!
Algeciras is the perfect place to stay if you need a base from which to visit other places! The list of attractions in Algeciras itself...well, not many!! Sometimes one just needs to make the best of the situation!!

"The Reina Christina"

We stayed in a older resort style hotel for the entire stay in the south of Spain! The best description i could give it would be a bit on the "shabby chic" side! Definately the nicest place in Algeciras...though I felt that I had landed in a time warp!

"The Beach!"

The nearest beach to central Algeciras was Guantamera. It was a 5 euro cab ride, lots of beach side eateries, and a fabulous view of Gibraltar!

Ferry to Tangiers - for EU citizens only?

by sjohar

HI,

I want to travel to Tangiers by ferry from Algeciras. However, I seem to remember that ferries from Algeciras are only for EU citizens, and non EU citizens have to take other ferries. Is that true? Can some one help?

There are 3 ferry companies, I understand that passenger tickets are interchangeable between them, don't know about cars.
There's no need to book in advance for any of the ferries, just turn up and buy your ticket at the port. See www.trasmediterranea.es, www.comarit.com or www.euroferrys.com or www.nautas-almaghreb.com

Although it's travel from UK, there's quite a bit about the ferry crossing in http://www.seat61.com/Morocco.htm which could be helpful

Restriction to EU citizens applied years ago for ferries from Tarifa, never as far as I am aware for those from Algeciras.

Just as a bit of info. There is now a daily ferry service from Gibraltar to Tangiers, departs at 1900hrs, and apparently there will be more crossings as from August.

Be sure to have your visa if needed, depending on your nationality, which they will check before you embark as well as prior to arrival in Tangiers in the ferry itself. Apart from this from what I know there are no restictions as to the origin of passengers travelling on the ferry.
Best regards

Hi there are lots of ferries along the day from Algeciras.
When you buy a ticket from a company you can use it in another one, no matter your nationality.

Travel Tips for Algeciras

On the way to Morocco

by realde14

"Last port before Morocco"

If you take the ferry to or from Morocco, you will most likely stop in Algeciras. The ferry and the customs, escpecially coming from Morocco, can take longer than expected, so you might be better off staying in Algeciras, rather than scheduling onward travel on the same day. Algeciras is not a bad place to stay. Once you leave the grim beachfront street and climb the small street inwards you will find a cute typical Andalucian town, pleasant enough to stay for a night.

The picture, btw, is Gibraltar, situated in the same bay as Algeciras, but with less frequent ferry connections to Morocco.
