HOTEL ZORAIDA PARK
We will be in Almeria just for one day in May as part of a cruise. I have done considerable research and hope that locals or recent visitors can assist me. I would like to see the Alcazaba and points of interest in the old town. I have been told there is a tourist office in town but I don't have the location. can someone direct me from the cruise ship? How far a walk is it to the Alcazaba? Is it a steep walk or a gradual one? How long would it take in a casual walk (2-3 miles per hour)?
This might help with the directions and distances.
From memory it was a fairly flat walk through the town until the last short path up to the Alcazabar which was then fairly hilly.
Nothing too strenuous there though I thought.

We decide to rent a bike to go from Roquetas De Mar to Almerimar. It was very hot and the only thing we say were greenhouses with melons, strawberrys. Remember to take a bottle of water to take with you because there isn't a place where you can buy a drink on that road.
The church of San Juan was built over the foundations of the old great mosque, knocked down by the Catholic Kings to build the old cathedral which, in turn, colapsed with the earthquake of 1522.
Bishop Villalán ordered the construction of the new cathedral somewhere else as well as a a church to San Juan in the grounds of the old cathedral, in a Gothic style with Renaissance influences.
The mosque was the center of the most populated quarter of the moorish Almeria: the Almedina.
In the church of San Juan the old "quibla" or holy wall, and the "mihrab" oriented to Mecca can still be seen.
Main altar in jasper by Ventura Rodríguez, paintings by famous Alonso Cano and interesting choir stalls in walnut wood.
