"Six Weeks in Almeria"

We liked what we saw of Almeria on a brief visit long ago, particularly the wild rugged and scorched landscape, astonishing coast line and unpoilt, white villages - all nestled some distance inland from the coast.

At first, seen on a grey day, I thought it would be an unattractive place to stay for too long but seen later - on the same day - under a blue sky, the beauty of the desert colours and sense of wilderness left a lasting impression.

We also knew that the climate in this area which has the only semi-desert in Europe would make a good choice for a longer winter visit should the opportunity arise.

So when one of our children sold his house, then learned the new house under construction would not after all be ready for 8 more weeks the question of where they would live for two months with 2 children under 3 years arose.
The solution was obvious we were by then retired so would move out and they could take over our house while we went to Spain.

We found a house to rent in Mojacar for what was to be both the best and the worst holiday we ever had.

The worst part was nothing to do with Spain or anything Spanish. Looking back on it now we can laugh - perhaps one day I'll do an album or Travelogue.
