This is one of the best ways to travel. The train station in Granada is within about a 30 minute walk of the Plaza Nueva or Cathedral area (below the Alhambra).
Think about getting a booking using a Credit Card for entry to the Alhambra in advance. Some days are very popular and difficult to get tickets. www.servicaixa.com
Be careful with the timed tickets to the Alhambra, the stated time is to enter the palace complex (the best bit) and NOT to enter the grounds. We ended up being refused at the palace entrance. It was quite a long walk from the main entrance and we had no idea about this timing. We went out bought more tickets and went in again, I do not recommend this! This was in November last, queues will be longer at busier times and you might consider buying online. You will love it.
The only civil building from 16th century in Almeria. The old hospital was founded by the Catholic Kings along with the Cathedral and destroyed by the 1522 quake. Bishop Villal?n ordered the construction of the new hospital in 1547. Still remnants of this old building can be seen in today's hospital. Run by the Church up to 1774, it provided care and help for orfans and poors.
Still serves as a hospital today (Hospital Provincial).
Our Lady of the Sea ("Virgen del Mar") is the tutelary saint of Almeria.
The legend goes that a wooden image of the Virgin Mary appeared in the beach of Torregarcía in 1503. A chapel was built in her honour in the same beach as she was baptised as Our Lady of the Sea.
