Almeria, The Shiny Corner
by Miguel_Marques
"Black sands and green seas"
Almeria province and its capital Almeria city lies on the SE corner of Spain. It´s technically the sunniest and driest place in Europe, nearly a desert, which gives it its peculiar features. Like gorgeous beaches, maybe the thing that first attracts the traveller, burt not the only. Great climate all year long, mountains, desert, water and winter sports, altogether with History, culture, architecture and delicious Spanish cuisine with Moorish descent.
"Phenicians, Greeks, Romans, Moors and Christians"
Even though it´s not one of the best preserved town in Andalusia, Almeria has something about its buildings and corners. Enjoy a mixture of tradition, History and modernity, at the capital city or in any other town in Almeria province. Almeria city boasts the biggest Arab fortress in Europe, peculiar temples, beautiful beaches and harbour and a vibrant, young downtown.
"Stuff to do, to see and to eat"
Don´t forget the interior of Almeria, mountains covered in woods and snow in winter, deserts and wonderful places to discover. Nightlife on the coast is great: Aguadulce, Almeria, Roquetas, Mojacar, San Jose... for any kind of style and mood. Prepare get into movie History: hundreds of movies have been shot in Almeria since the 50s, particularly Westerns, from "The good the bad and the ugly" with Clint Eastwood to "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" with Harrison Ford and Sean Connery. And you will have to eat! Enjoy a rather simple but tasty cuisine with all Spanish and Moorish flavour, as "tapas" or sitting at a cafe by the sea.
