Very memorable stay in every way

    by

The Parador of Arcos is the former Casa del Corregidor, the old Magistrate's house. Located on the main plaza in town, the Plaza del Cabildo, it shares the square with the Castle of Arcos, the main church (Santa Maria). Back in the day, the Corregidor played a role similar to that of a governor, though over time the role seemed to change more toward the commonly understood role of modern day mayor.

This is part of a chain of historic properties throughout Spain that were converted into luxury hotels.
The Parador of Arcos did not disappoint, in any way.

Welcome was very warm. The lobby was somewhat small but opened into a beautiful arcaded patio.
There was beautiful tilework, earth colors and grand vistas from just about everywhere in the hotel.

The single room was a bit on the small side (compared to other Paradors) but it was comfortable, well lit and all room amenities worked perfectly. Though I wouldn't consider the single room luxury, it was very comfortable and very clean. The furniture was in a blend of classic and spanish colonial, (heavy wood) furniture.

The restaurant was excellent, view was magnificent.
Would I stay here again? Absolutely!

Unique Quality: Service at the Parador, from the front desk staff to bell captains to restaurant staff, was outstanding. Once I got settled and came down the front desk staff had already contacted a local driver since I had inquired about a way to get to Gibraltar. The staff apparently got mostly European visitors from what they said, relatively few Americans and they were thrilled that I could communicate with them in their own language.

The view- You pay for the view. Though the view from just about anywhere in old Arcos is amazing, the views from the Parador are sublime! Was the view worth the extra money? Oh yes! The view from the common room is particularly good. There is also a mirador on their porch.
