The Spanish weather forecasting is good but like all these forecasts should be taken with some latitude. This is the forecast for Benalmadena. Cloudy and some rain these days but warm and by the time you arrive maybe the sun will shine.

Plenty of opportunities for day trips. Consider Ronda and Mijas and Malaga. Further afield you could consider Granada.
There is a frequent train service from Malaga via the airport to Fuengirola stopping at Benalmadena/ Arroyo de Miel

If you need to know the location of the station, open Google Maps and put the following in the search box:

Av de la Estación
29639 Benalmádena, Spain

Benalmadena is a beautiful place to stay for a week. They have a wonderful Marina and Sea-Life Aquarium. Also you can walk along the promenade along the beaches to Torremolinos. Lots of great restaurants and shopping. Ideas for a day trip are Ronda, Mijas and also Marbella is a beautiful town to visit. We always go in the month of February and the temperatures are in the low 60's during the day.
Check out some of our members Benalmadena pages to get some more ideas of what to see and do. Just click on "Destinations" (upper right hand corner of your home page) and type in Benalmadena.

You could visit places like Granada where there is lots of history, including history concerning whole europe. This is the place where the "moros" or moorish were defeated for the very last time in europe, and where the spanish reconquista pretty much ended (although there were skirmishes later on Granada coast and such)
Córdoba is a fine inland town with a very Andalucian flavor, lots of interesting and beautifull moorish history too. Sevilla is as much as a paradigm of Andalucia as any town you would visit. Only drawback is that Sevilla is rather big, so it´ll take time to visit it properly. In Sevilla there is the Archivo General de Indias, the archive for the documents the Conquistadors brought from southern america in the 15th & 16th centuries. You can visit this place, and there is information available on it in internet too.
Weather in southern Andalucia can be anything from + 20C to + 10C during the day. Nights can be cold. Now, at this moment that I´m writing, it is raining heavily near Málaga. Take some warm clothes with you. Sunny Andalucia in winter is a great myth, it can get very wet indeed. Then again, the weather could be fine, but just in case, take some weatherproof clothing with you.

Benalmádena has also what is claimed to be the largest Buddhist Stupa in the western world. It is very new, but rather fascinating still:

Travel Tips for Benalmádena

Boats and Buildings

by Geoff_Wright

To me, the most attractive part of Benalmadena has to be the Marina and harbour complex. With over 1,000 berths and more being built, it is amongst the best harbours anywhere in the world.

There's so much to see here, and you can just meander through between the moored boats on one side, and the attractive, modern shops and apartment buildings on the other. Lots of places to eat, or just have a glass of wine or a cup of coffee.

Visit Aquarium Sea-life by the marina.

by Regina1965

I just loved my visit to Aquarium Sea-life by the marina! There are just so many fish to see, and I pay Sea-life a visit every time I visit Costa del Sol. My favourite is the glass tunnel you walk through with sharks and sea-turtles swimming over your head. And the sea-horses, they are very lovely. I am a bit of an animal-nut so I am very easily impressed by all the various kinds of fish on display. And it doesn't hurt that Sea-life is committed to marine conservation.

It is open all year round from 10 a.m. and there are many discount tickets you can get, f.ex. 2 for 1, 2 Euros off, 4 Euros and 5 Euros off, so before visiting and paying the entrance fee of ca 11 Euros, find these discount tickets at your hotel or the information centers. I found 4 Euros off at the hotel and the Bus-terminal, but on my way to Sea-life I came across a discount ticket for 5 Euros off at one shop in Torremolinos.

Take the tourist train in Benalmádena.

by Regina1965

There is a tourist-train which takes you around Benalmádena. The train runs from Puerto marina to Tivoli and back. We bought the tickets at the ticket-office at Puerto marina in Benalmádena. We were going to The Teleférico cable-cars opposite Tivoli (see my tip) and wanted to make a day of it and thus decided on riding on this small train. What a ride it was, it lasts for 45 minutes and it was ever so bumpy and slow and I would not decide on taking it again. We bought a return ticket but decided on walking back.

The train-stops are at Puerto Marina, Parque Selwo Marina and Parque de la Paloma, Teleférico cable car and Tivoli and back.

A round-trip costs 4 euros.
