Gran Teatro Falla
by Beach_dog
The Grand Theatre Falla is relatively recent, only completed in 1905. It is built in a Neo Mudejar style of red brick. I found the style and design of the building interesting, blending in so well with the old Andalucian style of buildings. I assume it was named after Manuel de Falla the composer who was born in Cadiz.
La avenida
by SirRichard
This is the name by which is known the main avenue going all along the modern part of the city.
This will be the way you will enter Cadiz if you come by car or bus. Follow it till the city walls to find the old part of the city where most of the highlights are.
It has several official names (Av. de Andalucia, Av. Ana de Viya...) but is normally known as "The Avenue".
Carnival
by SirRichard
Cadiz's Carnival is famous in Spain.
It is celebrated during 1 whole week at the end of February, 40 days before the Easter.
From one friday to the next sunday, all that week is holiday in Cadiz, it is indeed the main local festivity, and many people prepare for the Carnival all year long (and I'm not exaggerating!). They prepare the costumes, disguises, reherseal with their singing amateur groups, write the lyrics of satyrical songs...
All through this 9 days you can find at every street of the Old Town people in disguise (mostly by night), groups singing (specially on sundays around the Central Market), private and public parties and many many many people everywhere. It's a Carnival to be lived on the streets!
The best weekend to go is the first, as people are not as tired as the 2nd weekend (after the whole week partying, LOL)
tarifa and the windy coasts....
by willy_wonka
not so far from cadiz is another beautiful town called tarifa. the whole coastline around here is famous in europe for its wind and kitesurfing activities. on our day here, at a mirador (lookout point) close to tarifa, the wine sure was howling!!! in cadiz province one thing you will notice alot of is wind farms. this was a european community initiative to try different ways of generating power. the landscape is dotted with huge windmills. from various vantage points outside of cadiz you can stand on clifftops, overlooking the med, having your hairstyle blown away, and in the distance, the chance to see africa!
Medina Sidonia

Without words! A must do with no doubt! This city has as much history as Cadiz. You can find rests of the roman city that was previously and also you can enjoy the Moorish style streets and the castle and churches.... There is so much to see that you need more hours that what you first think lol.
We had to see it twice as when we first arrived there was an incredible fog, and by the time we had done most of the visiting, the sun came back and the fog disappeared... so we went back to the same spots .... I guess it is not going to be my last visit.
