Yoga Retreat for at least 1 week...

by Jasminerose

Hi there VT
I was in Granada, Seville and Almeria last Autumn teaching English and enjoying the breathtaking beauty of Andalucia. I am wanting to take a weeks holiday and fancy making it worthwhile by going on a Yoga retreat. I am wondering if anyone knows of anything else which is a bit more affordable but is still organised for people looking to get a week's intensive yoga course?

I also love being by the sea and as I currently live in the city, a coastal location would be a bonus..

Re: Yoga Retreat for at least 1 week...

by Jasminerose

Yes I saw this site myself when I googled Yoga in Andalucia.. however there is a single supplement taking it to over 600 per week not including flight.. I was hoping that there might be some 'inside knowledge' on more local yoga retreats at less touristy prices..

thanks anyway..

Travel Tips for Cadiz

Did you know?????

by bugalugs

Did you know that some of the James Bond Film 'Die another day' starring Pierce Brosnan and Halle Berry was actually filmed here in Cadiz on Caleta Beach/Castillo de San Sebastian.

Also the English poet and writer Lord Byron (1788-1824) lived here for a while. He even wrote a poem about Cadiz titled 'Girls from Cadiz' in 1809.

It is also from here that Christopher Columbus saled on his second voyage to the 'New World'.

Parque Genoves

by Carmela71

This Park is just at the end of Cadiz, on the old town, it has an interesting collection of trees and also some birds.

It is the most popular in Cadiz and I used to go often as it was in front of my residence.

Puchero

by blint

Puchero is a very typical dish from Cadiz, In other parts of Spain a similar dish called 'Cocido' can be found which is basically the same as puchero. It is of course that the people of Cadiz like to call things by their own name, but anyway, if you are here in Cádiz, give Puchero a go if you can. Something to keep in mind is that Puchero is a typical dish eaten at home and a fancy restaurant is not likely to have it. This is in fact true of most typical foods from Cadiz. Therefore it is worth trying a less fancy place which may give you the true taste of Cadiz, or get yourself invited to someone's house!!!!!

Puchero is made from chick peas, chicken, ham, potatoes, carrots, leeks and things all stewed together. It is a kind of soup/stew.

Tarifa

by bugalugs

Tarifa is also known as the windy city, apparently even sitting on the beach at times can be impossible because of the sand blowing around. However when we visited in late November the sun was shining and all was calm. The beach looked lovely. It is also famous for surfing, and kite surfing. Contests and competitions are held here. There are many sports shops around where you can all the equipment you need, even pay for lessons if you wish.

Here in Tarifa you can also get the ferry to Tangier, it is a high speed ferry and only takes 35 minutes. They run pretty regularly each day.

Puerto Sotogrande

by Carmela71

Our first stop going to Conil was Sotogrande. This tourist resort is famous as Valderrama golf course is nearby and here many famous have a second house (lets say it is a second Marbella lol).

It was a lovely first day of the year!
