El Corte Ingles in Cadiz

by elsierich

What is the cheapest and most direct way to get to El Corte Ingles from the Cruise Terminal. Last time we were there we took the tourist bus but it is expensive just to visit one shop.

The cheapest way is to use 'shank's pony' as from the port area it is less than 2 kms. If you are able to walk then certainly this would be fine. I will provide you with a Google satellite map of the walk. The El Corte Store is directly the other side of the main railway station at Cadiz. If you copy this entire link and paste it into your browser it should show you the image.

or just copy the address of El Corte Ingles into the Google Maps search and use 'Driving Directions' changed to Walking directions to find the route. The store is located at:

Av de Las Cortes de Cádiz .1, 11012 Cadiz

If you want a bus then I think No.5 is your one. You want Centro Commercial.

Love the old houses, the tiled entrances, the flowered patios....

Me encantan las casa del casco antiguo, con sus ventanas enrejadas, las entradas y sus azulejos y esos patios llenos de flores....

Notes on the dictionary

by blint

Many times it is just that the words are pronounced differently here (Aro for Claro), I have avoided putting a lot of those words in my Gaditano dictionary as you can work out (more or less) what word they are supposed to be. I have also TRIED to avoid putting in words which are also used in other parts of Andalucia, but I'm sure a few may have slipped in. I also tried to stick to the most commonly heard words and not go crazy. I'm sure this tip will grow in the future or even turn into a Andaluz/gaditano dictionary!

Andaluz is the 'dialect' spoken in Andalucia. Of all the provinces of Andalucia, Cadiz is the one with the most regional words and expressions. This was more true in the past but may be dying out these days due to globalization.

Regional words can differ from towns and villages only 50kms apart.

Nature Sports

by miguelonsevilla

Cadiz has a spectacular nature and a good way to know it could be practicing sports.

Surf, playa El Palmar
Windsurf, playa Tarifa
Biking, scuba diving, 4x4, and walking for example: http://www.naturexplorer.com/en/index.php

Central Market

by SirRichard

A nice experience if you have enough time is to visit the Central Market (Plaza de la Libertad, 1), close to the Central Post Office and the Torre Tavira. Here you can feel the real popular everyday ambiance of Cadiz...
The fish section (see photo) is the most attractive to me, you can sometimes see whole tuna fish (several meters long) or even swordfish!
