Taxi and lockers
by janetlee
I will do a day trip to Cordoba on my way from Seville to Madrid by AVE train . As my itineary is very packed, I have the following questions and hope that VT members can help:
1. In order to save time, I plan to take a taxi from Cordoba train station to Le Mezquita. Is it easy to get a taxi? Is the charge fixed or metered?
2. I note that the lockers in Cordoba train station are closed and I can only use the lockers at Cordoba bus station. If all lockers are used up, is there any suggestion as to where and how can I deposit my luggage?

Very easy. They are metered. It should only be €15 max.
Sorry, can't help with the lockers Q

I'm deciding between going to Cordoba only for the day or staying overnight but it depends on whether there are lockers available. I'm going to Seville by train after Cordoba. What did you end up doing on your trip?
Travel Tips for Córdoba

by Christianne
See Mezquita which is the most important sight of Cordoba.
The Mezquita dates back to the 10th century. At that time Cordoba was one the most prosperous sities of Europe.
You reach Mezquita via the Patio de los Naranjos
The mosque was used for Moslem prayer but later it was converted into a Cathedral which is in the centre of the mosque.
LA MEZQUITA - MIHRAB
by LoriPori
The original Mihrab was not correctly aligned to indicate the exact direction towards Mecca, as the Great Mosque was built on the grounds of an existing building ( the former Cathedral ). To correct this many years later, everything was done to make the new MIHRAB unique and beautiful. Byzantine craftsmen were brought to Cordoba and made this Mihrab the finest of all Moorish religious architecture. Its roof is a high dome hewn from a single block of marble. It is decorated with a profusion of floral and geometric patterns and verses from the Koran in Arabic script. It is truly beautiful and one of the many highlights of the Mezquita.
Unbearable heat for most
by lilnation
Comfortable shoes I was in Spain from Mid-May to the begining of June and it was still fairly hot. When deciding to walk around do not forget to at least bring a bottle of water. It will come in handy. There are plenty of shops and vendors to buy from. It is a must.

Trains
The AVE high speed train links Cordoba with Sevilla (45min) and Madrid ( 2hrs) The new station opened in 1994 and is located in the northwest of the city. There are trains to most important Andalucian cities and Madrid and Barcelona. European and American rail passes, including EuroRail and Inter Rail are accepted on the RENFE network, subject to the usual conditions. However on certain trains there may be a supplement to pay. Ticket machines for local trains (cercanias) and regional lines are easy to use. A green flashing light guides you through the instructions printed on the front of the machine. Fine dining.

Excellent food and service. Like it. It gets crowded starting at about 9pm. I think it is cheap as compared to restaurants in Singapore for the excellent quality of the food and impeccable service of the waiter and waitresses. It opens at 8.30pm. Everything we tried are delicious. Probably we asked the waiters for 'recomiendo'.
