Hostal Fonda La Corredera is a hostel located on Plaza de la Corredera, a 10-minute walk to the Mezquita/Cathedral, according to guests who stayed there. Attractions in the vicinity include the Archaeological Museum of Cordoba, the Museum of Fine Arts, Cordoba, and the Museo de la Tapa y el Vino. Hostal Fonda La Corredera received a 28% satisfaction rating. Reviewers said the hotel was an adequate budget option, but overall the message was dissatisfaction. Guests recommend using public transportation to find your way; bus and rail were reportedly easier than driving a car. There were many negative comments about the noise, an effect of the “paper thin” walls. Guests also commented on the lack of air conditioning, the sub-par beds, and limited space to move about. On a positive note, guests said the workers were friendly, although somewhat disorganized. Amenities include a sink in the room, plus showers down the hall.
We stayed at the Fonda de la Corredera in April 2010. Unlike the other message posters here, we didn't have many problems.
We only had to call once, then got an email confirmation. As a courtesy we called a few days before arriving to assure them we were coming and at the specified time. The workers were very friendly and seemed a little disorganized but not enough of a problem that we were concerned about it. If I understand it, they have a restaurant and this is their side business....which is why you can only pick up the keys at a certain time.
Also, with us being independent-minded travelers, getting there wasn't very difficult on public transportation. From the bus stop on Avenida de la Via Augusta, between the train and bus stations [GPS 37.889024,-4.789661], we caught the #3 bus and got off the stop on Diario de Cordoba [GPS 37.884239,-4.776253] , across from the Florista Cordobesa [Diario de Cordoba, 16]. From there it was a short walk to the plaza. The door for the lodgings is right outside the northwest corner of the plaza [GPS 37.883891,-4.775249 ]
Our room was on the top floor, over the arch in the northwest corner of the plaza. The stairs are very steep, but being located in a historic old building, we figured that was just part of the ambience. The beds were not the best, but we were there only two nights and the room was very clean. The room has a sink; the shower/WC were down the hall and were also very clean. The room had double doors that opened onto a small balcony overlooking the plaza below. For 40 Euros/night we thought it was nice.
It was about a 10 minute walk to the Mezquita/Cathedral, so we thought the location was very convenient.
On our way out of town, we caught the #4 bus at Calle de San Pablo 5 [GPS 37.885672,-4.775754] and took it back to the bus stop between the train and bus stations.
We thought it was a magnificent setting and would return again.
