Market day

by daarth

Is market day in Estepona Wednesday or Sunday? I have been told both and wonder which is correct. Perhaps they actually have it twice a week?
Where in Estepona is the market?
Thanks

Re: Market day

Aha! So there are 3 separate markets? When is the one in the ruins?

Re: Market day

d'oh, sorry. You did say every day lol

The covered Mercado de Abastos or Food Market open in mornings can be seen on Google Maps at this address:

Calle Villa 29680 Estepona, Spain

The tourist market is held at the Marina on Sunday mornings.

The Town Market is held on Wednesday mornings at the open ground near the Motorway A-7 (Autopista de Mediterraneo) and the beginning of Avenida de Juan Carlos I , next to the football stadium. On Google Maps you can find it using this address:

Camino de las Puertas 29680 Estepona, Spain

hope all those locatuions are up to date !

Re: Market day

Is the Mercado de Abastos open on Sundays?
We always arrive on Saturdays, and the nearest market with fruit and vegetables isn't open till Thursdays (San Pedro)

Re: Market day

The Mercato de Abastos is not open on Sundays :-(
therwise open every morning.

Re: Market day

No that figures. I take it there is no fruit and vegetables at the tourist market. It's no big deal as Monday in Estepona is a good day :-)
Thanks both of you!

Re: Market day

Hey that is cool, thanks! I will have a chance to explore it already now on Monday March 1st
btw, I was at the Thursday market in San Pedro on December 31st now, and they were closing as I got there. It was two hours early because of lots and lots of rain! The few still selling were trying to get rid of everything at a very low price lol

Travel Tips for Estepona

Yes, Blue Skies and Sandy Beaches

by Geoff_Wright

A view of the clean, and empty beach. Being close to the Straights of Gibraltar, Esterponia can be a little cooler than other Costa resorts, and this was certainly the case when we walked along the beach. Mind you, it was late in the afternoon in March.

A week later, these beaches were battered by storms for a week!

Estepona Golf

by GibJoe

Estepona Golf is situated just outside the town. There are many golf courses to pick from, as you can see in the photo. Golf is not really my sport, so cannot really say which is the best but I have heard that Valderama in Sotogrande (20 mins from Estepona) is one of the best. After all the Volvo masters is held there.

Gibraltar is not too far away

by Bwana_Brown

As with our day-trip to Ronda, at only 52-km and a 1-hour drive away, Gibraltar is also within easy striking distance of Estepona (border formalities are minimal). Sue and I were looking forward to seeing this icon of the British Empire while we were in the area but, with living in England, her sister was not nearly as keen to re-live life at home! We could see her point of view, so saved this visit for later in our trip when we were winding down after our tours of the Atlantic coast in the Tarifa and Vejer de la Frontera areas south of Cadiz.

The weather was not perfect, but we knew it was our last chance on this trip, so bit the bullet as we took in the majestic sight of The Rock shrouded in mist at its upper elevation of 426-m. We enjoyed our short excursion there, after crossing the border on foot from La Linea de la Concepcion and then walking through Gibraltar's main defensive fortification - the Landport Gate (2nd photo). This gate dates from before 1704 when the strategic choke-hold of Gibraltar at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea was captured from Spain by England in the War of the Spanish Succession. As the main landward approach to Gibraltar by attacking forces, the tunnel has since been greatly fortified over the following centuries.

Our weather was not the best, but we sat down outdoors for a British beer in the Lord Nelson pub once we had made it inside the fortress itself. A couple of bus ride tours later including an encounter with a few of Gibraltar's famous Barbary Macques (3rd photo), the only wild apes in Europe, and we then had to boot along to find our next accommodations while the light still held!

"A beach town"

From what I could see of this place it is a place to come if you want to go to the beach and sunbathe all day then have a drink in a beach bar. I did miss out on the old part of town which is probably the best thing to see here.

The Paseo Maritimo was nice but nothing beats the white sandy beaches and unspoilt Costa de la Luz. It depends what you are looking for though. Spain or holiday town.

Estepona is FULL of holiday makers and ex pats (especially English).

If you are Spanish and want to practice your English or German or try foreign Cuisine then consider this place for lunch or toilet break or even spend the night to sample a few British or Foreign beers. It seems like a wealthy town though so make sure you bring plenty of pasta.
