Laguna Village - upscale shopping Resort
by Bwana_Brown
In our short time actually exploring Estepona itself, we only made a couple of forays into the downtown area of the village and seemed to have the same old problem of finding an easy parking spot due to the fairly constant flow of traffic. As it turned out, because our B&B was located on the hillside above Estepona's eastern edges, we eventually chose to stick to that end of town during our exploration of the seashore. This area seems to be newly developed and we were amazed by the opulance of the Laguna Village shopping complex that was built there in 2006. It has easy access off the main highway with lots of paved parking spots available on the beach, so we decided to check it out while we were there doing our beachcombing. It touts itself as a 'designer boutique', located on the New Golden Mile and its literature says "the design of the centre and the surrounding grounds are as luxurious as the stores inside. The centre also benefits by having the Puro Beach Club on site which offers visitors a great place to relax and unwind. Inside you will find a small but very exclusive selection of stores and restaurants. The stores may be up-market as are the restaurants, however the beautiful surroundings and the added bonus of the on-site exclusive beach club where you can relax after a busy days shopping make Laguna Village a worthwhile extravagance weather you are living here or just visiting the area. Go on, enjoy the celebrity life style in luxurious surroundings."
Oh yes, it is upscale all right and way out of our shopping league. We first came across the place when we actually ate our evening meal at one of its restaurants on Christmas Day after returning late from our Ronda day-trip! I must admit, it does have beautiful grounds.
Casares Pueblo

A winding road between Estepona and Sotogrande, takes you inland and up to the beautiful traditional white village of village of Casares. The village is in the natural surroundings of the Sierra Bermeja and is excellent for walkers. It is an ecological paradise where you can enjoy nature at its best. Named 'the dangling village' as the little houses apper to just dangle on the hillside, Casrares has been declared a "historical artistic village" due to the Arab castle that sits at the top of the village. Thre is much in teh way of historical intrest for those who are intrested, with Roman, Phoenician, Iberian settlers who have left their stamp.
Take exit 153 at Estepona’s Industrial Estate and then the main dual carriageway, the ‘Nacional’ 340 to Algeciras as far as km. 146 where you come to an intersection with the local Casares dual carriageway, the MA-546, leading up 14 kms. to the village.
Clock tower - Torre del Reloj
by spanishguy
Probably it was the minaret of a mosque on muslim times. Following the reconquest of the town by the Castilians, the mosque becames a church, and its tower was used as a belfry. In the 18th century a neoclasic dome was added to it, and the tower was decorated with garlands, volutes and high reliefs representing an ox skull. Currently there is a school next to the tower.
Nice place not too built up

Estepona is located about 90km west of malaga airport, and about 20km west of marbella.
Its got more of a spanish feel about it than the likes of marbella and those resorts between marbella and malaga.
Its got 60k people so its a fair size, theres still tourists there but not so much as the other resorts.
Its got a great marina with loads of bars and restaurants, some with great sea food.
Theres 3 beaches spread around town, nothing special but they are ok.
Its a good spot to go explore further into the mountains and the town of rhonda, or down to giblraltar, 40km away or into marbella or puerto benus.
i went in november, it was quiet but perfect for a quiet break, and was around 22 degrees so a nice break.
