Gran Hotel Elba Estepona & Thalasso Spa: AVOID THIS PLACE

This hotel should be added to the list of the worst hotels in the world - Elba Grand hotel Estepona in Spain. Although it is a very expencive five-star hotel, it has rude management and stuff. If you intend on going here, be prepared to be treated with no respect and laughed at your complains or needs. It is located in a terrible spot and there is absolutly nothing to do here. Your only option is sitting by the pool that could have been anywhere. Unfortunately there is not enough sunbeds, so you have to wake up really early to reserve a spot. Even then, you will only be able to enjoy the sun for very little as there not enough umbrellas to create shade. This is the reason I'm sittling in my room (the only good thing here) and working on my vacation. As for the restaurants, there are 3 of them with the same chef. For a rediculous price you have to put more spice on you dishes in order to eat them. Nobody speaks english, there is always a long line at reception and if you are offered a bottle of champagne - dont take it, because there will be a lot of drama untill they make you cry and you pay for two to make it stop. When they gave this hotel 5 stars, they meant minus five stars.
Gran Hotel Elba Estepona & Thalasso Spa: A 5*+ HOTEL WITH A 2* MENTALITY!

I booked this hotel for my elderly parents for a 2-week stay in October 2006. I also arranged return airport transfers from Malaga airport to this hotel. My parents' last day at this hotel was a complete nightmare which ended with my mother and father (who are in their 70's) being led to believe by hotel staff that the car waiting outside the lobby for them was their transfer to the airport. It turned out that the person waiting was a criminal who confined them to the car at the airport until they paid him EUR 90.00. My mother has a heart condition and the hotel couldn't care less about us and our complaint! The hotel staff at reception have denied any knowledge of my parents asking them to call the transfer company on the day of departure to reconfirm the pickup time. The reception deny calling this transfer company and deny confirming anything to my parents. The staff member on duty at the lobby entrance also denies checking with the driver that he was there to pick them up, this at my father's request before my parents got in the vehicle. Complaints to the General Manager of this hotel have gone unanswered. Same complaint which was also sent to the head office of this hotel has also gone unanswered. Is this a five star plus hotel?! What other Superior class hotel does not answer complaints or has fairly senior staff who conspire to lie in order to protect themselves? What kind of hotel is not interested in guests who have paid out EUR 3,000 - and that's just for the room? Appalling. I am so angry at how my poor parents were treated and it is totally the fault of this hotel, which is made even worse by the attitude of the management team there. Avoid - and stay elsewhere! There are similar 5* hotels along the coast which are much more professional.
The hotel's amenties were of a high standard, a pity that the hotel's customer relations department is non-existent!
