I only saw some of the reviews about this hotel after I had booked a stay with my wife. Some of the reviews were not very encouraging. We went in October, so perhaps it's different out of main season. We found the hotel to be of a very high standard. Our room was quite large and clean. Dark wood furniture and tiled floors. TV and hairdryer. The public areas were a little small and full of smokers, but the law on smoking in Spain is changing so this should not be a problem in future for non-smokers. We were travelling independently and perhaps we had more personal attention from the waiters than the tour groups.
We aren't great fans of buffet food, but the buffet looked well up to international standards. We ate from the al la carte menu, which was excellent, and a good mix of local and international cuisine.
The hotel is up a steep hill out of Granada, across the road from the Alhambra. It is certainly a prime location if you are visiting the Alhambra. We went to the Alhambra early in the morning and missed the crowds, I would certainly recommend that tactic.
There is a little bus which stops outside the hotel and takes you down to Granada. If you are young and fit you could always walk, but it is steep!
We arrived by car late at night and I was worried about finding the hotel. My best advice is simply to follow signs to the Alhambra, which is well signed on the motorway. The hotel is right opposite the Alhambra car park. The hotel were happy to offer me garaged parking and brought the car round to the front of the hotel when I needed it.
All in all, an excellent stay, my only gripe was the lack of public space, otherwise, oustanding.

Avoid: Hotel Will Charge For Accidental Damage

by A TripAdvisor Member

I have booked this hotel for our honeymoon for 6 nights, after reading the reviews. Sadly, our experience of Hotel Alixares was far from being pleasant.

The travel iron has accidentally scorched the bed cover, and two days later we were told at the reception that there is a problem with our room and we were presented with the cover. We explained that it was an accident but were told that we will have to pay for damages! Where is their insurance policy? We were surprised to find that no bed cover was provided for the remainder of our stay in the room! Upon checkout the bill included the charges for the accident, and a very rude lady receptionist pointed at the cover asking us to "take it with us"! This was a bitter end to our last hours in Spain.

Yet another mistake to come!

When we arrived, we were told that breakfast IS included on all days, although it mentioned room only on the agent’s receipt. The fact that breakfast was included was confirmed again in the middle of our stay as well. Nevertheless, we were asked to pay for the breakfast for 5 nights at the end of the visit!

Other points:
The room was small-to-average size. The view was very good of Alhambra, but it was hard to sleep with the cigarette smoke from the hall. Also there was smoking in public spaces in the hotel, including the main reception.

The hotel does not deserve 4 stars at all, and it is not a new hotel, with many facilities lacking refurbishment, such as the restaurant and the room fixtures.

If you are travelling with children, or are not sure if you yourself can accidentally break a plate or spill something then you should avoid such a hotel that CHARGES FOR ACCIDENTAL DAMAGE IN THE RUDEST MANNER POSSIBLE.

Saves you money and time.

Me and my friends stayed at the Alixares Hotel for 3 nights and 2 days. The first thing I noticed was how close the hotel is from the Alahambra and it is only a short walking distance from downtown plaza where all the shops are. Also breakfast is included with the cost of the room, but not lunch and dinner that will cost you extra. The rooms could use a upgrade and the housekeeping was average, but overall the convenience of being directly up the hill from the Alahambra and shops was worth it!! Oh yes beware of parking...... they have it available but, it is not big enough for all of the guests at the hotel. Subsequently, you would have to park in the Alahambra's parking area, which could result in a fee of 14 euros a day!!!!

Our best deal yet

After booking a special deal on this hotel at a very competitive price for a two night stay to visit the Alhambra, I couldn't help thinking that there might be a catch. There wasn't. It is excellently placed for the tourist. Clean, well decorated and hospitable, offering a good buffet breakfast (a big hit with my teenage sons). A bonus was the pleasant walk through the olive groves to the side and rear of the hotel. Through the olive trees I could see the snow capped mountains of the Sierra Nevada.

Ok but.

The hotel was perfectly situated for the reason for our stay (visiting the alhambra) & was generally of a very high standard.
The constant high levels of noise (day & night) where the only thing that let the hotel down.
If you book this hotel get a room above the 1st floor & not over the kitchen/restaurant area.

I will be travelling from Cordoba to Granada by ALSA bus. Bus reaches granada at 19:30. Planning to stay in Hotel Alixares near Alhambra. what is the distance ?? is there a City bus or should I take a Taxi from bus station to Hotel.

Also, Any feedback on hotel Alixares ?? I chose that because it is right across alhambra and had good reviews on booking.com.

Thanks for your replies in advance

This is the second time I have seen someone mention thugs and dogs at the Alhambra in the late afternoon...

I'm not usually an early riser, but looks like I am going to go for the morning visit.

should I say that the 'thugs' thing is bull*hit. Or he is referring to himself.
I guess the guy did not give due respect to Alhambra, if he visited it at all, i.e. he could not plan well.
Its three weeks that I visited Alhmabra and am still in the trans. This can not be and can never be made again with all the technology and resources we have now. I did Alhmabra in the afternoon session and nothing bothered me except for the strong breeze! There will be hundreds, if not thousands, of people overthere, all awestruck and stunned!
