An accomodation close to Alhambra
A modern 4 star hotel constructed in 1982 and renovated in 1994. The hotel is located just 230 meters from Granada's most historic monument, the Alhambra Palace, but is at a distance to the city of Granada itself.
Alixares Del Generalife Hotel's facilities include a bar, restaurant serving up a mix of Spanish and International cuisine. It boasts an outdoor swimming pool, conference facilities and a solarium. Its spacious rooms and wide range of services make the hotel much in demand in the conference and catering world.
The hotel also has an exterior terrace. The lobby is decorated with the familiar and conventional Andalusian colourful tiles. There is a large reception area, with marble floors and a reception desk. There are also spacious seating areas where one can watch television or just idle . This is a particulaly popular hotel, due to its ideal location.
Directions: Close to the Alhambra
In front of the Alhambra..
The situation, just in front of the entrance of the Alhambra is very useful.
Its only a three stars hotel but the crew is smiley, there is a garaga and, very useful, a bus get to plaza Nueva, so you let the car in the garage and go to downtown...
Unique Quality: The restaurant is not so fine...
Directions: Go to the Alhambra, easy to find.
More about Alixares Hotel
Well Placed Hotel
We stayed for a week at the Alixares. It is a very well placed Hotel, right opposite the Alahambra and you can get the bus into Granada just down the road, they come every 5 minutes. We had three rooms and they were lovely, clean, and the linen was changed every day.
The only downside was that the pool was closed for the winter and we had booked this particular hotel for the pool.
If you are driving to this hotel just get onto the motorway for Granada and follow the signs for the Alhambra, the hotel is right opposite, the route that I printed off would have taken us all through the main part of Granada.
All in all it was a great hotel and the staff were friendly and helpful, we would go again.
I stayed here for three nights in October. The hotel is very close to the Alhambra, about a 5 minute stroll to the ticket office. This was great as I had booked to visit the Alhambra twice -- once in the morning (8.30am visit) and once at night (10pm to 11:30pm visit).
While the hotel is close to Alhambra, it is high up above the town. There are regular small buses which take one up and down. However, I walked down and up each day, except for a second excursion down one day when the bus was very welcome! (This trip was to go to the Mirador San Nicolas to get a great view of the Alhambra, which I strongly recommend. My second trip there using the bus was to view the Alhambra at sunset and see it all lit up.)
On the advice of an earlier posting on Trip Advisor I had booked a double room, as it was still a reasonable price. This was good advice. I arrived early and the room was not ready. The reception staff, who were friendly, assured me that the room set aside for me was a good room, and they allowed me to look at another room that was ready as well as the room set aside, and the other room was really small (and I suspect it was a single room). As it was the room I got was fairly compact, but still roomy enough. The room was fairly modern.
Granada was a great experience and the hotel added to that experience. The hotel provided a good buffet dinner for only €11. This included everything (including bread, soup, salads, variety of main dishes, and dessert), except drinks. While the food had a certain canteen level rather than being gourmet, it was still good and great value -- I had it all three nights I was there!
For those who have laptop computers with wireless capabilities, the hotel offers free wifi internet connection in the lobby area. For others there were computers which could be used for a fee to connect to the internet.
All in all I would be happy to stay here again and can highly recommend it.
Stayed in this hotel for a week, opposite Alhambra, lots of walks around area. Would not advise this hotel if limited mobility due to steep hill on which alhambra is situated. Quiet rooms are well furnished with chairs and table and nice bathroom. Avoid first floor rooms (138 in particular) as smelt terrible, the spanish drains! Was moved to fourth floor without any problems and that room was good. Breakfasts are buffet style, plenty to choose from. Standard included rolls, crossaints, cooked choice, cheese meats fruit yoghurt cereal.Avoid evening/ daytime food unless you like canteen standard catering, much better to go to city. Position of hotel was good, number 30 minibus just down the road went every few minutes to city until 23.00. Walked down (steep hill) and caught bus back 1 euro (get a bulk ticket 9 x trips for 5.45 euro,or 20 for 10.80 especially if more than one person).Loads to do esp.if like exploring. Go to arab quarter just off plaza neuva (Albycin)or catch the 32 minibus. Also the cathedral, many lovely squares to sit & people watch, Kids will like the science park. Skiing resort only 30mins away.
25 euro taxi to hotel from airport or catch 3euro airport bus to cathedral then 32 minibus up to hotel.
Perfect for Alhambra
Perfectly situated for Alhambra. Clean Hotel with friendly staff.Buffet meals were good value on the whole. I would cetainly go there again
Hotel with Pool in Granada
Planning on stopping over a couple of nights in Granada in August and keen to find a hotel near to centre with a pool. Thinking of Alixares or Melia Granada. Can anyone recommend either of these?
RE: Hotel with Pool in Granada
We stayed at the Alixares, because it is very close to the Alhambra entrance, & we wanted to be there first thing in the morning. The hotel is not really in the centre, its up the hill alongside the Alhambra, so its a short taxi ride or a steepish walk down to the centre. The hotel is perfectly adequate, & we got a very good deal on a family room, but don't expect 4/5* facilities.
