what to do besides Alahambra?

by orangeterebear

Hubby and I will be in Granada next week for 3 days. We are staying at the Parador. What else is there to do besides the Alhambra? What other cities are nearby that are interestin to see?
Thanks,
Tere

RE: what to do besides Alahambra?

by Birgie

I am going in June. I have not been there for 20 years but I have been doing a lot of investigation. There is the cathedral where the Catholic Monarchs Isabel and Ferdinand are buried. I have been in there, the alabaster work is amazing. You will enjoy walking around the various plazas like Bib Rambla. I recommend you bone up on the history of the city if you want to enjoy it a lot more. There are so many important figures that have lived and died there.

I am going to look for some new places this time (I spent a year there when I was in college) that I didn't really pay attention to while there. LIke the Park that commemorates writer, Garcia de Lorca and a convent which I think now is a school in the Albaicin. Also there are some places in the Albaicin (old Arab quarter on the hill) that you might enjoy. Maybe a walking tour would be best. That's what I am going to do.

Travel Tips for Granada

Sacromonte

by Christina1881

A short while back I had the amazing experience of taking a walk on the "back of the Albaizin" - in the Sacromonte. Which is almost a part of "the Albaizin" - just to the right of it up the mountain...
It was a sunny day, and the view we had from there of the mountains was amazing. It is really worth it taking a walk around Sacromonte.

Habas con jamon.

by belgianchocolate

At least eat this once. It is the local speciality.
I must say that I liked it , to my surprice , since
I'm not used to eat beans. But I did find it a bit greacy.

It is Ham (Jamon) made in the Sierra from
Trevélez and very soft , juicy beans. The time I
ate it , they served an egg on top.
It works well , the combimation of salty porc
meat and beans and it is not expensive.

Explore the Sacromonte

by lareina

Wander through the Albacin and up Camino del Sacromonte to take in a different area of Granada. Let your eyes be blinded by the sun reflecting off of the whitewashed walls and let your feet wander through narrow streets. The further you wander, the more countryside becomes visible. And if you become tired, it is only about thirty minutes to walk back to the bustle of Plaza Nueva and get yourself some tapas.

La Marcha

by Lorro about Calle Pedro Antonio

The university of Granada has about 60,000 students so you can imagine that the weekends have a pretty lively nightlife. Many bars are located on the street Pedro Antonio. This is one of the main places for "la marcha" -the nightlife, barhopping. There are many discobars and people everywhere. Also in the streets surrounding the northern end of the street there are several tapas bars with generous tapas.

National flights arrive to...

by DanielF

National flights arrive to Granada airport from Madrid and Barcelona. You can also come by train or by bus.
Walk to the Alhambra along the Paseo de los Tristes. It is very beautiful. The last part is steep, but worth it.
