Nearest beach to Granada

by magpie450

Hi, While staying in Granada I would like to spend a few days by the beach. Could anyone advise me which is the easiest/nearest beach to reach by train/bus and how much the fare would be. Many thanks

Re: Nearest beach to Granada

Hi!
Go by train for Bobadilla at 17:00 from Granada and from there by train at 18:44 for Malaga. Go by train for Torremolinos at 19:49 from MALAGA MARIA ZAMBRANO.
Torremolinos lies on Costa del Sol.

I would take a bus straight South to Motril, there are tons of beaches, head over to Nerja. I can't imagine that taking more than 30 minutes.

I think that I am right in saying that the Nerja bus stops at Salobrena and if I am right then this may be a better bet and certainly quicker. Although I do find the beach at Salobrena not so sandy (at all) it does have quite a nice atmosphere and is possibly much easier to reach by bus from Granada and quicker than Motril.
Have a look at all the options on the bus times. Rail is a no no.
By the way, the bus station in Granada is a little way out of the centre and you will find it easier to take a taxi. However there are buses running past the place and you may find the Granada bus service web site (in Spanish) quite useful. http://www.transportesrober.com/
if you open this and the map you can see that Lines 3, 10 and 33 pass the bus station. (Estacion de Autobuses)

If you copy and paste this address into GOOGLE MAPS, you will get the Bus Station in Granada and you can work out where it is. That is if you can read maps.

There is 2,5 km to Varadero on the coast from Matril according to ViaMichelin http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/viamichelin/gbr/tpl/hme/MaHomePage.htm?ck=OK

There is a bus direct to Nerja ( this is the prettiest, sandier, and more touristy of the options.) It takes about 1hr 20 and the bus ride has great views. The timetable wasn't that regular when I lived there (every 2 hours maybe?...perhaps it's improved) but you could easily get hold of timetables from tourist info offices when you get to Granada. This bus stops at both Salobreña(1hr) and Almunecar (1hr 10) these resorts are more'Spanish' but I didn't like the 'rubble beach' much ( Yes apparently the town council did add building materials to sure up the already stoney, grey beach!!)Alumnecar has more to offer than Salobreña in terms of size, restaurants and history. Word of warning the last bus back from Nerja is often packed so get to the stop early( I never got left behind but sometimes I got butterflies)!

Hi!
I don´t meant Matril, but Motril.

Travel Tips for Granada

visit the Alhambra, a complex...

by fmario

visit the Alhambra, a complex of buildings, towers and palaces dated from the moors domination, which ended in the XV century. You must spend at least one day to visit it, but be aware with timetables and quotas, especially when visiting Nazarite’s Palace. Alhambra

El Refugio

by blint

I've just started working for the dog shelter in Granada where I have met some wonderful people who take care of the many abandoned and mal treated dogs in Granada.

It is very rewarding work however, the shelter is under funded, over filled and understaffed.

Therefore if you would like to help or are living in Spain or Germany and would like a dog people contact me!!!!! There are many dogs in need of your help!!!!

If you're wodering why I said Germany too it's because the owner of the shelter is German and many kind Germans adopt animals from Spain!

I was looking after a kitty that went off to Germany last year!

Oh, That reminds me we have lots of lovely cats and kittens at the shelter too!!!! You should see how their faces light up with just a touch of affection! They need and give love like any human you know!

At the moment there is a medium sized short white haired dog that is beautiful and is suffering from depression. She is happy while she is out and about but is always sad in the shelter. She REALLY needs a home for her own mental health. She is my favourite dog there, but I have a dog and I don't have space for another! I won't forget her little happy face and pricked ears while she is out for a walk!

Day 6 - Castro del Río - Córdoba >> 40.2k

by into-thin-air

A Long and Undulating day again walking on a mixture of quiet roads and
earthen tracks, but through very pleasant countryside.

Nowhere for coffee / lunch so make sure that you have a good breakfast
before leaving in the morning and pack plenty of water as well as Good
Supply of snacks.

We pre-booked our accommodation in Cordoba so that we weren't messing around
late in the evening when we got there and I would recommend anyone walking
the route to do the same.

Lots of choice of restaurants for your evening meal

Pampaneira: a road trip through the Alpujarras

by TempNomad

This is a lovely little town with white buildings, a couple of bars and restaurants, all white walkways and roads (see following photo), and friendly people. This was the most touristy town I saw in the Alpujarras. It had parking, and definitely was focused on visitors. However, it's not "touristy." The cokes are more expensive in the bar than in the tiny towns scattered throughout the countryside; that's how I knew it was more touristy.

Definitely take a road trip to Pampaneira. The joy is the journey, and using this town as your destination is a wonderful way to anchor the trip.

Pampaneira is past Lanjaron (the water town!) and just past Soportujar. If you are willing to drive A LOT, stop into Trevelez as well. The views and people are wonderful.

Buy a Pass

by aimlesslady

I found that one of the best ways to get around Granada is by taking the bus. I highly recommend that if you are going to spend a couple of days here to buy a multi pass ticket. I believe it was about 10 Euros, when I was there 2 years ago. It is a very cost effective way to get around the city.
