hotels - posada pilar del toro or melia granada?

by chloegovan

Im considering between 2 hotels:

Melia Granada is the obvious choice, but I noticed a small personally-run hotel called Posada Pilar del Toro and it had received much better reviews than some of the well-known ones despite having a star lower than they did. From the pics its hard to tell, and I was wondering if anyone has ever seen or visited this place? I am really unsure which one to choose, as surely the bigger hotel would have more info on tours, more staff around to help etc, although this other one looks like it has more character ansd shows you a bit more what the real spain is like as the locals see it opposed to how the tourists do. I'm just worried that it wont be comfortable etc..

Travel Tips for Granada

The moorish heritage

by SirRichard

Apart from the main buildings, Alhambra... there are still many traces in Granada of its moorish past. You can find many shops, restaurants and tea-shops where you will be in an arabic atmosphere and feel as if you were in Marrakesh or Istambul...

Sundays in Spain

by Dabs

I don't think this is unique to Granada or even Spain but as I was wandering around Sunday afternoon I found that most shops were closed including grocery stores. I pretty much wandered the entire central district before finally finding a mini market where I could buy some drinks and snacks. And I found very few shops open although we did do some shopping in the touristy Alcaiceria district (Old Moorish silk market), just north of the Plaza Bib-Rambla and some of the tourist souvenir shops along the Plaza were open as well as the ones near the Cathedral.

Sierra Nevada

by keeweechic

The beautiful Sierra Nevada range is a wonderful backdrop to the city of Granada. The name means ‘Snowy Range” and is popular amongst tourists for skiing with its 61km of ski slopes. This region is Europe’s most southern choice for ski resorts. It also has the highest peak found on the Iberian peninsular.

Lots of Fun

by Moustique about LLA

I had so much fun that I didnt realize it was 7am when i left. It played really good music and had very attractive people. Beware though if you are blonde you will definitely stand out. I was dancing and had some guy feel my hair--he hadnt never touched a blonde's hair before. look pretty--everyone else there looks good

Walk

by Maggies

Granada is not a big city and if only you have enough time you can get everywhere on foot. And the weather is usually very nice so strolling around the city is great too. If you're tired to can take a bus (after you figure out its schedule) or simply take a taxi and hope for green lights and no traffic cuz the meter runs even if the car is not moving.
