I sent Muchoviaje a note telling them my ID was really my passport number and that I was American. They verified my credit card and gave me an address in Madrid to make it go through! When I checked into the Triunfo, their current rate was 132 euros a night for a double, making our rate almost half of the normal rate. My mom felt the staff at Triunfo was snobby with us because of that. I just think the guy at the reception was a snobby sort of guy to begin with so I didn't really detect special negative treatment.
We stayed 4 nights. The location was good for tourists, it's near the Albaicin, the Alhambra and the Puerta Elvira, a big moorish style gate leading to Calle Elvira (which made it a bit noisy at night sometimes). The room was nice. I liked it because to me it was the epitome of what I would expect in a decent European hotel, high ceilings, lots of dark wood trim, long, tall windows that open onto like 6 different balconies! Our triple room was not huge, but it was adequate, there was a big wardrobe, writing desk, mini bar, t.v., etc. If I could get the same rate I got, I would definitely stay there again but at full price, over $180 a night...nahhhhh.
