I was in Granada on Sunday 5 October, and I came across an open-air event where lots of people were working at lace-making. I was fascinated.
Can anyone tell me what was going on? Does this happen regularly, or was it some sort of special event?

What you have assisted to was the second meeting of 'yarn craftsmen': about 50 people embroiding traditional laces in Puerta Real... It doesn't happen regularly, this was only the second year, but I think it could become a traditional happening.

As I indicated before, the Alhambra is well worth seeing. But order your tickets ahead of time as part of the Alhambra has limited tickets (only 350 people per hour). I recommend choosing the morning time (from 8:30am to 14:00) as the best time to go. Less crowds and the heat is not overwhelming.
When I stayed in Granada, I could meet very nice friends of Raquel's. They were really kind to me and I'll never never forget these Andalusian guys!!

A slightly shorter but again nice undulating day, again walking on a mixture
of quiet roads and earthen tracks (Very Muddy ones when we walked the route
!!)
Nowhere for coffee / lunch so make sure that you have a good breakfast
before leaving in the morning and pack plenty of water as well as some
snacks.
Plenty of choices for both accommodation and restaurants for your evening
meal in the medium sized town of Beana
It's not that most people miss Las Alpujarras, it's that they don't take the time to really enjoy them. The villages are breathtakingly beautiful, but it's the people that really make it special. The tiny villages all have cafes in which to stop for a cool drink or snack. The people are always curious as to what the heck you are doing there. And the roads through the villages are challenging and make San Francisco seem like child's play.
It's worth the trouble to rent a car and get lost. If need be, you can always find a home with an extra bed for rent.
Bus 19 from Malaga airport to malaga bus station 1euro. Turn right out of arrivals hall.

We got a "Bono"discount ticket for 10. 68euros. Normal price 8.29 each.
Tickets have a seat number(place)on them.
We caused a bit of chaos by just piling on and sitting anywhere.
Coach was full so I'd advise booking in advance or as soon as you get to the bus station.Once in Granada go up esclator to local bus stops, 3 or 33 takes you to the cathedral or next stop Acera de Darro, 0.95euro
