Travel Tips for Guadix

Barrio Troglodyte

by Carmela71

Visit the caves area, is called Barrio Troglodita, I am afraid is not great to do photos as cables are around and spoil it, also we had the sun in front and still I am doing my best with new camera hehehe ...

You will find the locals call you to visit the caves, some do it for free and other expect some money for showing it.

The caves are phantastic, cold in summer and warm in winter... so cozy ...

Castle of the Calahorra

by Carmela71

A few km from Guadix, but a must do visit.

We had great views of the almonds trees in blossom, the castle on the mountain, and the snowed mountains of Sierra Nevada ... close4d all week, except wensdays to see the interior, of Italian design.

"Things" on floor

by Martin_S.

When we first arrived in Spain and entered a small bar/pub/restaurant we observed people standing at the bar and throwing things onto the floor. When we looked closely we found that the entire floor was littered with papers, wrappers, napkins, straws, sugar packages and others. No, not food, just "litter". Carmen explained that it was a custom and that they would not sweep up the floor till it became too littered or at the end of the day. This litter was to show how popular the establishment was. If you go to the high priced tourist places you will not see this.

Not your typical street scene

My tips on Guadix and short, this is true, but it is because there aren't many words to describe it. Nor is there much information I can give on it. It is a place to see and marvel at not to give facts about.

Saying that here is a fact for you: The origins of the cave homes are thought to date back to the Arabic times of Guadix

Wierd and Wonderful

"A Must See"

This strange and magnificent town is a must see day trip from Granada.

The town itself is pretty but if you venture into the gypsy barrio on the edge of town you are in for a special treat.

Although this area is ultimately por it is pretty in its own right but above that it is simply fascinating due to the fact that most of the houses are underground caves with white chimneys protruding from the sandy hills.

The backdrop is otherworldly and if it wasn't for the fact they used a town in Tunisia for Luke's home planet in Star Wars they could have easily used this little spot.
