Asur Hotel Campo de Gibraltar: Good value hotel near Gibraltar border
My girlfriend and I stayed at Iberostar Campo de Gibraltar for 3 nights in April 2010 during an Easter weekend visit to Gibraltar.
We booked our stay through www.travelrepublic.co.uk and paid £60 per night for a double room with breakfast.
Since our visit, the hotel has now become known as the Asur Hotel Campo de Gibraltar.
Despite its name, the Campo de Gibraltar hotel isn't actually located in Gibraltar; it is located in the neighbouring Spanish town of La Linea de la Concepcion.
However, it is only a short walk from the Gibraltar-Spain border crossing and Gibraltar's airport.
Upon arrival, we were able to walk from Gibraltar airport to the hotel in less than 10 minutes – and that was with suitcases in tow!
Outside the hotel is a marina and a small sandy beach. The longer sandy beaches of Playa de Santa Barbara and Playas de Levante are a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
The centre of La Linea de la Concepcion is a 5-10 minute walk away; you'll find some great tapas bars there, along with plenty of cafes, restaurants, bars and shops.
Between the hotel and the Gibraltar border crossing, you'll find the bus station (just a few minutes walk from the hotel) where the buses from other Spanish towns terminate and depart. We caught a bus to Algeciras from here in order to catch the ferry across to Tangier.
Our room was relatively spacious and was clean, airy and well furnished.
Two slightly-larger-than-single beds were pushed together to form a double.
The usual standard furnishings were present; bedside cabinets, a desk, a chair, cupboards and a wardrobe.
There was a mini bar and a TV set. Tea and coffee making facilities were available...but only for a charge! (€1.90 for a tea bag or a sachet of coffee, €2 for a sachet of cappuccino or hot chocolate). Needless to say, we left them well alone!
The best thing about our room was that it had a balcony with a couple of plastic chairs, a plastic table...and a partially obscured (but still pretty impressive) view of the Rock of Gibraltar. I'd have paid the room rate for that alone.
The en-suite bathroom was clean and modern, with sparkling tiles and granite surfaces. There was a bath tub with a shower above it, fresh towels and complimentary toiletries.
The buffet breakfast spread was extensive and impressive.
As well as the usual choice of cereals, fruits, yoghurts, breads, cheeses, meats, eggs, bacon and pastries there was a much loved Spanish delicacy – churros con chocolate! Neither Emma nor I could resist filling bowls with the thick hot chocolate sauce and dipping a few of the long fried doughnut sticks into them!
A convenient hotel for anybody wishing to visit Gibraltar – just a short walk across the border into Spain. Excellent breakfast buffet and balconies with views of the sea and the famous Rock of Gibraltar. Recommended!

Asur Hotel Campo de Gibraltar: Spanish hotel 10 minutes from Gibraltar
Chose this hotel as I wanted a place to stay for 3 nights while I explored Gibraltar. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the border. It's situated on a side street just past the exhibition centre.
It was ideal for a short stay, staff were friendly, check in and out was quick and easy. I had the buffet breakfast which was a good selection of both hot and cold foods.

Hotel Mediteranneo: Nice Sea views
We were moving over to Spain, we had not found anywhere to live so we stayed in this Hotel for a few nights.
For what we paid it was good value for money and included breakfast, I wouldn't rate it 3*, more like 2*, but having said that, it was clean and had a balcony and great sea view.
Ive got one negative thing to say and that is, dont have any Laundry done by the Hotel!! I put 8 items in a bag to be washed and ironed, 3 days later I had to go and ask where it was, it arrived un-ironed. On checking out we were handed a bill for over 40 Euros!!!, trying to explain to the young lad on reception that this was over-priced and they hadn't even bothered to iron the items was a waste of time as we didn't speak much Spanish and he
spoke hardly any English......so be warned. I could have taken the whole lot to a Laundry in La Linea for a lot cheaper.
Book online at www.hoteldetective.net we paid under £40 a night for a Twin room by booking in advance through this website
